It's that for 20 or so years, I played games without the Internet, and the only way to test console games was to rent them, or (for the PSX) pick up a demo disc. Now you can download pretty much any demo you want for free before buying the game.

I still have to get used to that. I was never a PC gamer, so I never think of demos.
