So I googled some stuff to attempt recovering a thread.

WAT.

I love carpet, especially since our vacuum has a brush beater attached to the roller that takes care of that automatically. We stripped out all of our carpet because of allergies (mold underneath the carpet; it was over a decade old) and replaced it with hardwood, and now I can't get out of bed in the morning without the usual pain you get when one jumps a couple feet down onto something attached rigidly to a concrete foundation. It's also a lot colder, which is a real pain in the winter.

There are, of course, a few benefits to having carpet. I'm willing to sacrifice these to avoid the nonsense that is off-white carpet though. The floor was rather cold for us in winter, as well. This was mostly due to the fact that we had an unfinished basement that was filled with nothing but cold air from the outside, and terribly inefficient heating system which required oil.

I ended up adapting a strange toe to heel walk whenever I was at home, to make as little noise as possible on the wooden floors. My boyfriend would probably make a ton of noise stomping around like he does.
