It's quite common fuses to go in self-repaired consoles......don't ask me why.
Possibly static damage of some sort weakens the fuse itself? I really dunno.
Yeah, I'm assuming that's what it's related to. I never repaired anything inside, but I swapped out the plastic when my hinge broke sometime last year, which of course requires the top screen, speakers, and wireless card to be un and re-attached.

I could steal parts from my sister's DS, but it's not working either.

That one powers on and charges, but neither of the screens turn on.

It hasn't been dropped or anything, as far as I can tell it just decided it was tired of functioning.
I've highlighted the bit that's relevant to the way I've seen DS lite consoles behave with a blown L1 or L2 fuse.

Well, thanks for the confirmation at least. I figured that's what the problem was after looking about Google for a few moments, but I didn't actually find anyone with my exact problem in the time that I actually spent messing about with it.

I doubt you'd be able to "steal parts" from another broken DS...but I guess you could try if the boards are the same :/

An example board showing the size of the 2 fuses in question.....

Note: not all boards are the same.

I'm aware of that, thus the wacko. And I've seen them.

I suppose I'll just give my sister (not the one with the broken system) my Acekard for the time being. Perhaps in the spring I'll get myself a pretty wine red DSiXL. There's always DS emulators, but I'm not a fan.

Sorry if it sounded like I spoiled your idea.....bit tired atm lol.
But seriously, if you have 2 broken consoles you really have nothing to lose by trying to cobble together a good one.

Just be careful to minimise the possibility of static damage when you mess around with the boards.
I know it's hard to do if you don't have the proper grounding gear

We'll see. For now, I've just given my little brother my absolutely amazing FFVI plastic shell to put on his DS. Golbez is so epic and he doesn't even know who he is.

When my sister wakes up I'll give/let her borrow my Acekard 2i with my lovely class 6 8GB Transcend.

In the meantime, I suppose I'll let my various scans on this poor computer finish up. Hope you guys are having a lovely first day of the year. I actually couldn't stay up last night, so Mom and I are drinking champagne tonight instead.

I probably won't even bother. And mine was beginning to need a new top screen even before it started refusing to power on. I forgot about that, so this actually isn't the first problem it's had in the recent past.

I got it used last February though. And of course there's no way of knowing how long the previous owner had it, for all I know it's had a good, long life.

And so epic he's managed to jump forward two whole installments in the series! :O

I'm so jealous of that shell. I remember you posting images of it here a long while back. So, so awesome.
