If you can fill up your enhancement thingys on the license board like health, swiftness, magic armors are probably a good thing to have as well as Ghis used a lot of magic when I faced him. (Aero I think, got any wind resistant armours?)

I haven't. I got a shit load of the white magics for Ashe on the License board and she only uses Cure. I feel ripped off.

Yeah you will need to fill up the enhancements on the license board, those are probably the handiest things you will get IMO. The Magicks aren't really good at this stage, consider that a lot of magics will only become available as the game progresses, so its a better idea to simply get the license when the magic becomes available in a shop.

I still can't remember (haven't played in a while) whether or not there is a battle lore enhancement, this is handy if you prefer physical attacks. Magic lore, if you prefer using magic.
