I checked some sites, and error 74 can be a faulty hard drive, bad A/V cable, or "something more serious". I pulled the HD off, didn't fix it. Swapped the A/C cable with my known good one, didn't fix it. So we went with "something more serious".

I called Microsoft, and as expected, the console is out of warranty, so the repair will cost $99. Ok, it cheaper than buying a new one. I go to set up the repair order, but my son had called earlier today, and they started a repair order without a credit card, and my son stopped them since there was no way to pay. Now they can't start 'my' repair order because there's already one associated with that serial number. So, the supervisor said she had to contact the Hardware department to cancel the other repair order, then they will call me back to start the new one and take the CC number to pay for it.

Ya know, I hope my son gave them our phone number earlier, because I know I didn't.

I thought you get like a 3 year one now? I remember them extending it even further because I ended up getting a refund check.

I thought so too, but I didn't buy my son's 360 new, so I have no idea how old it actually is. We've had it for a year and a half.

I already know w hat's wrong with his 360. He plays it for HOURS on end without shutting it off. I mean, it is literally on from the time he gets his homework done (4:00-ish) will I go to bed at 12-1:00, every single night.

He has burned up 4 of those external cooling fans, and this one is already groaning.

I hesitate to offer to let him use my 360 till his gets back.

Same here. And I threw a mini-fit when he wanted to play CoD4 with his friend using my 360. I let them, but I made sure to run them off every 2 hours or so. I refuse to turn my system on and have it squall at me because the fan is fried.

Also, 30+ hours straight on my old 360. It broke, but that obviously had nothing to do with it.
