Pshaw, it's not as bad as people say.I guess there's twice the amount of characters, being that there's two kana alphabets, but you can still learn them in a week if you're smart (I'm not. I took about three.
). And then...there's two thousand Chinese derived characters.
; But that's really... It's not quite like an alphabet. It's not something you need to learn right away, but more just something you build up as you progress with the language, like a vocabulary.
It's not even really hard, just time consuming. I was really afraid at first, but I've learned over a thousand without even really thinking about it... You just pick them up without realising.
Yeah, I guess. I think the biggest problem for me that arises from the non-romance-language-yness has just been that I can't guess my way into a good vocabulary like I can with French.Odd grammar I can handle. Once you've got your head around it, it's really just a different way of approaching the same things. But I miss being able to take a good guess at what any given word in the language is based solely on my knowledge of English.
Of course French has its share of faux amis, but it's still a big advantage.
I don't know, though. These seem to be barriers in the way of absolute fluency, rather than base communication. Japanese might be a harder language to master completely than a romance language, but I don't think it's any harder to communicate with at a standard level. Hence my admiration; you all do that so much better than me.I get muddled just writing a simple 'hello' email.
Aha.I knew connaitre (Yes yes, it has a funny accent on the 'I'. But I'm tired, and I forget the shortcut.
) was used for places and people, but never exactly knew the reason.
Thanks for explaining it. That makes much more sense~
Ahaha, I see.I know, they're awful. I did everything I could to teach myself the right situations to use them in last year, and eventually got it. Unfortunately I promptly forgot it all again as soon as the exams were over.
;
I really should be working harder at French... It seems like such a waste not to, as I've done most of the foundation work. All that really remains is to tighten my grammar and learn like...a whole language's worth of words. Which sounds like a lot. And it is. But you know...comparatively speaking it's not so bad. Being that getting started with any language tends to be the hardest thing.![]()
No no. Like you say, it's how we learn. Please do correct.As long as you're not too mean about it, I don't mind. ^__^; And I trust you not to be too mean~
