The latter. I'm just not sure how to approach it. Do I review the games by today's standards, or do I review them as the kid I was when I first played them, only with the added perspective that the years have given me?

Compare apples with apples, as they say. Today's standards aren't all that fitting, IMO. I'd go with the latter. Nothing wrong with a bit of educated perspective brought on by the years.
