Even if this particular foe isn't going to work on that precept, you can't afford to throw it away because it's handing the enemy (and any enemy in the near future) a propaganda dream to work with. Especially when we're constantly claiming to be the civilised, modern side of the conflict.
I see. But what happens when we capture someone with no allegiance to the opposing army, an insurgent, or "terrorist" if you will? I think the Geneva only protects army personnel not some religious nut that was promised virgins in the afterlife. I hope we follow Geneva only for propaganda and then turn around and do whatever we want.

    thats why we have gitmo.

edit: the current crop of "terrorists" have allegiance to the cause, which in some cases is actually worse than just being an enemy soldier. how many suicide bombers did we have in the european theater in ww2?

i had it set up fine until i needed to change my DNS settings because roadrunner is shit. since then, i can't forward any ports correctly, and i can't manually set the dns settings to the default because i don't know what to use.

EDIT: Found the default DNS, i just set it to automatic, then did ipconfig /all

And now that I'm set to the default DNS, I'm getting literally zero torrent traffic.

The person captured would either qualify as a civilian (and thus fall under the regular GC rules for such people) or an un-uniformed solider (and thus fall under those rules). There aren't really any unaccounted sets in the GCs.

Aside from that, you don't really get the propaganda side. Once you stop playing by those rules, word will get out sooner or later and at that point all the goodwill you've built up by your public actions is null and void. Moreso than if you'd just been forthright from the beginning. And that mud sticks. It completely undermines the PR work from the beginning and the precedent it sets will haunt you well into the next conflict. After all, why should they believe anything you say after getting caught in a lie that big?

As an aside, Gitmo is an attempt to do an end-run around both the international conventions and federal law. Quite a succesful one at that, but it is essentially an extra-legal system.
