I can see why people are paranoid - but because of one assassination in the area where people get bombed and shot all the time, he's going to say that this is why America should be on their guard, ect...? Did the other deaths not count?

Surprisingly enough, she wasn't killed randomly like it always happens (or just about) with other suicide bombers. They killed her because she represented an alternative she defended for years. That's the difference: her death had an actual meaning.
