Demo video is uncompressed, unless you have an uber-leet pc that can use processor power to compress as it records, with a game playing too.
The demo isn't a video. It's a demo. It's an in-engine recording of the player momvements and interactions, that can be played back by loading the map and replaying what happened ingame. The file size of the demo is tiny, especially compared to video. Making that video is an entirely different animal. If I use Source Recorder to replay the demo and dump it as raw video (which has the benefit of being 100% perfect 30 FPS, with no lag or hiccups or any other issues, since when it records this way it doesn't generate it in real time onscreen), but the video size is massive. Last time I used it, the files created (.tga images, 1 per frame, at 1.5 MB each) came out to be over 4.5 GB before I ran it through VirtualDub and converted it to DivX. That video was only 1:40, the current footage I've got stored in the demos are over half an hour worth of footage.
I took one of the demos (I broke them up over time), played it back in Source, and instead recorded the game with FRAPS, and got this:
http://files.filefront.com/Fistful+o.../fileinfo.html
It recorded the console and Steam overlay chat, but it's only a couple moments where that's onscreen. More pressing issue is the awful audio quality. I thought I had fixed that issue with FRAPs....
Just checked. The total size of all the demos I recorded tonight together is 16 MB.

As I was walking down the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today.
I wish, I wish he'd go away.
