I had never picked School Days to be the kind of anime that had the gall to throw the preconceived notions of the anime industry and its audience right on its head. Sure, we all know the School Days game was a particularly violent way to practise dating, and could be acclaimed for trying something new in that sense. But the anime takes innovation to whole new levels with the airing of this spectacular final episode, revealing the whole series preceding it to be nothing more than the gradual lead up to an ambitious experiment in irony. School Days has been the most unpredictable anime in years; people may not have known whether it was going to end up with blood everywhere, but not a single fan of the series could have predicted the climactic twist to the show.
