It's a personal option, but it was for me. I bought the console when I had no intention to do it till next spring or so, just cos I didn't want to sacrifice that feature. And I know I'm not gonna use it that much, even more having a working PS2 as I said, but I wanted to get the console as it was originally conceived (atleast here in Europe). Then again, I'm stupid like that
IMHO, the starter pack (2 games + 2 sixaxis) for 499 euros was a nice deal, you get the BC, 20gbs more, a couple of games to play or trade if you don't like them and a couple of controllers for only 99 euros more than what a 40gbs model with no games would cost you.
Spain is the paradise of the Sony fanboys, so all the starter packs (arround 30.000 units) vanished in a couple of weeks once the price dropped. I guess you have there the same 3 packs available here.

Argh you are not making it easy for me!
If I just knew whether or not Sony will release a software based PS2 emulator for PS3 the choice would be so much easier!
The 40GB comes with 65nm chips and thus doesn't need as much power and in turn doesn't get as hot as the 60GB. Plus it's supposed to be even quieter than the 60GB and that's great! But is it worth sacrificing the BC for "optimized hardware"? I don't know!![]()
Can one of you lovely admins change my U/N to Clive?
Pretty please?

I knowbut I really can't recommend you what to do. I'm just trying to justify what I did
I didn't give too much importance to the optimized hardware, the original model seemed to be pretty solid... we are not talking about the X360 after allIt's not too noisy and doesn't get too hot compared with Wii, then again I never play for long periods of time with any console anymore.
Sony didn't even said for how long are they gonna support the BC compatibility in the new FWs to come :/
Any special game you really want to play?
Love you.
