    Default RPG Suggestions?

    Hey guys,

I've got some time to kill, and what with all 1,000+ roms available to me at this website (Plus a CD I burned a whileeeeee back with over 700 roms) I have quite a choice for RPGS...

So I'm just wondering, what are some really GOOD RPG's for any system? I have PS2, PSX, Genesis, Nintendo (I have original consoles but cant find them), and through emulation I can get GameBoy/Neo Geo, etc. So what are some really good RPGs, in the sense that they have a good story, because I really care less about graphics. I need a story that is as in-depth and engrossing as FF7 (because admit it, YOU wanted to cry when Aeris died too!!!). I've heard of alot of RPG's but I have neither that much time nor patience to sort through all few hundred of them...I have a link to a Wikipedia article of every RPG made from Nintendo to now...somewhere....

    So any suggestions?

Chrono Trigger. Either for Super Nintendo or Playstation. You choose, it's a great game that's better (in my opinion) than FFVII.

Instead of the obvious "play the other FF's" post, here's a short list of some stuff I'd recommend for one reason or another:

    SNES:

Super Mario RPG, Star Ocean, Chrono Trigger,

    Genesis:

    Phantasy Star series,

    PSX:

Valkyrie Profile, Xenogears, Parasite Eve series, Vagrant Story, Star Ocean 2

    PS2:

    Xenosaga series, Shadow Hearts series,

Yeah, I think that'll cut it for now, I'll be over here waiting until someone posts something I may or may not comment on.

EDIT- DAMN YOUR NINJA POSTING EVANS!

The FF III remake for the DS is a must.

I've played Chrono Trigger, and yes for the time that it came out, it was probably one of the best RPG's in that time. I have to stick to FF7 as my personal favorite, but Chrono Trigger is DEFINATELY in the top 3 of all time RPGs.

I've played and own FF8 and 10, as well as 7 and 12 (and 11 but its the CD and still unopened, my brother got it on his hard drive and never opened the CD). I've played Chrono Trigger, as I mentioned in the last post. I'm downloading FF9 as I type, and plan to get FF4 and 6 afterwards. I've played Xenosaga and can't say I particularly like it, because it has too many cutscenes...WAY too many IMO. I'll try out Star Ocean 3 and Valk profile, as well as Xenogears....(My friend bought Star Ocean, whichever one came out in '05, and he said its an awesome game. If I get in touch with him again, I'll borrow it, rip/burn it, and upload the ISO for all to enjoy ).

SNES: As I've mentioned previously, I've played Chrono Trigger, can't say I've ever played (or heard of) Super Mario RPG. If Star Ocean (the original) is on SNES, I'll snag the rom and try it out, because I've heard alot about it.

Genesis: I've played the Phantasy Star Series on Genesis (does it start with 4 or am I missing out on the other 3?) and I throughly enjoyed it....it consumed about 2 months out of my summer vacation .

PSX: I'll try out those games...and I always through Parasite Eve was an action RPG, similar to Resident Evil?

PS2: I'll try out Xenogears, and I can't say I've ever heard of the Shadow Hearts series, thats def one to try out.

I have a list of RPGS that I had planned to play, its somewhere on this mess of a computer....I'll post it once I find it.

    *EDIT*

I'd rather play the original? And I don't own a DS, so unless there is an emulator out, I won't be able to play that.

    Get it.

    Great fun.

Plot's rather flat, but you probably won't notice.

    I know I didn't.

There's a translated version around. Should be a copy on the main site.

It is, but there's still enough RPG in there that it fits as more of an RPG. Vagrant story is also an ARPG.

PS2: I'll try out Xenogears, and I can't say I've ever heard of the Shadow Hearts series, thats def one to try out.
Relatively unknown series, but pretty good.

(Persona 3 should've been added to my list, but I wouldn't want to expose people to the video game equivalent of crack)

Star Ocean 3 is the last one to have come out.
Star Ocean 1 was on Snes, yes.
Super Mario RPG's fun. Try it.
Phantasy Star 4 is the last of the Genesis series.

Shining Force 1-2 for Genesis are both good. Though, they're more Strategy RPG than anything else.

EDIT: Fuck you, Ray. You and your 'Ninja' posting.

EDIT 2: PS 2-3-4 are on Genesis. The first came out on the Sega Master System.

It's 2007, almost 2008, how can you not own a DS? And there's nothing wrong with the DS remake, it's actually pretty good. And when I say FF III, I'm not talking about the one that came out in the US on the SNES as FF III, that was really FFVI (J).

    I don't own a DS because I don't? Its actually a simple process:

    1) Don't get in your car, start the engine, and drive to the local video game store.
    2) Don't ask the person behind the counter for a DS, specifying which color you would like.
    3) Don't chip out up to $100 in accessories, games, styluses, screen protectors, etc.
    4) Don't BUY the DS, or any games.
    5) Don't tear open the DS packaging like a kid on Christmas day as soon as you get home.
    6) Don't play the DS, and take advantage of the many games, online play, and ease of local connections.

And thats the process of NOT owning a DS .

I'll borrow Star Ocean 3 from my friend. I'll get the SO #1 rom. I guess I have to try out Super Mario RPG now. And is Phantasy Star 4 the only game ON the genesis, or is 1-3 on there as well, or on another console? I was never able to find PS 1-3.

I've heard of Shining Force but have never played it, the only game with "Shining" in the title that I've played is Shining in the Darkness (great game by the way, although the Point of View on it is kinda weird, kinda reminds me of an early DOOM type game).

Right, I'm going to cover those series that aren't mentioned by anyone else..

Suikoden 1, PSX - Must-play, you won't appreciate the rest of the series enough if you don't.
    Suikoden 2, PSX - Brilliant game, must-play.
Suikoden 3, PS2 - One of the best PS2 RPGs plot-wise. Play the other two games before this one.
Suikoden 4, PS2 - Pretty horrible pre-series prequel, but you need to play it, because if you don't you'll miss out on a really, really, really cool character. Assuming that you get him.
Suikoden 5, PS2 - Episode 2. Too good. Just go.

Fire Emblem VII, GBA - Yeah, it's a strategy RPG. Probably the best there is.
Fire Emblem VI, GBA - The seventh game is a prequel, so you should do it like this. Need a translation patch.
Fire Emblem VIII, GBA - Yeah.
Fire Emblem IX, GC - Do it.
Fire Emblem X, Wii - It'll be out when you're finished with the other games.

Warsong, Genesis - Strategy RPG. Read the FAQ I wrote for it.
Der Langrisser, SNES - Best SNES game ever. Who needs a translated story?

Destiny of an Emperor 1&2, NES - I like these games because history was altered in a manner favoured by me.

Oh, and now for some odd games..

Uncharted Waters 2: New Horizons, SNES - Sailing/pirating/exploring RPG. Hot shit.
Inindo Way of the ninja, SNES - Time-limited-RPG-which-you-probably-have-to-level-in-goodness.

    /Tired.

    Michael Ballack, he scores free-kicks.
He's got black hair, and he's german.
    Michael Ballack, trains in paddocks.
in his spare time, HE FARMS HADDOCKS!
Watch me play Super C, guys!!

I'll look into the games that you've mentioned, only ones I would have a problem getting would be the Wii and GC ones, because as I mentioned, I don't own any of the 3rd generation systems, or a gamecube (and I will NEVER get an Xbox....EVER!!!!)

Destiny of an Emperor 1&2, NES - I like these games because history was altered in a manner favoured by me. -----> and that made me laugh

    Star Ocean is good.

If you can't find it on the main site, here's a copy of it I uploaded. http://www.epforums.org/showpost.php...8&postcount=80

Also, if you have problems running it (random freezing between 1st and 2nd towns) try using the settings (if you're using zsnes to run the rom at least) I posted here: http://www.epforums.org/showpost.php...0&postcount=14

I played it using zsnes 1.42 with those settings and never had a problem with it.
