    Default Wii Modding

Is there anywhere I can get it pre-done, fairly unused, refurbished, or next to new (since they had to open it up and put whatever in). Or even used, I am talking about a business/website I could use, I live in U.S., and if it is a problem, in the state of Tennesee. If something like this exists and is easy to put ISOs and whatnot on it I would probably buy it/get for Christmas. Tell me if they work well or if I should wait as well, thanks. EDIT: Also tell me if you have to burn a disc or something for get games on it.

EDIT: Stumbled upon this site, is there a better place or is this even trusted?

I can't tell how reliable is that site but answering one of your questions, yeah you have to install a chip on it and burn the games in order to play them. The games are arround 4gbs in size (compressed).

So that would take forever to burn?

A 4gb iso takes roughly 15 minutes to burn at 4x.

Well there are several websites that sell premods (already modified consoles to play backup games) but the problem is Nintendo made some modifications to their Wii's motherboard and released a new motherboard, just like Sony does with PS2 all the time. Up until now, there have been three variations, D2A, D2B, and the latest D2C.

The current generation of modchips, Wiinja, Wiikey, Cycloviz, etc can only be applied to Wiis with motherboards D2A and D2B, which was a fairly easy install of soldering just 5 wires. If they are applied to D2C, they just won't work and that is why all the websites that used to sell premods now show "Out of Stock" in the premods category.

Also, there is something called "Legs" on the DVD Drive Chip on which the modchip used to be installed. Now initial Wii consoles had those "legs" and it was fairly easy for modders to install the modchip on Wiis. When Nintendo found out about this, they started releasing Wiis with those "legs" cut, so modders had to literally recreate those legs by scraping some chip or something and then install the modchip. This made the whole process of installing modchips to Wiis a little bit more difficult.

Also, fairly recently, approx less than a month, a new modchip has arrived, which is called the "D2Ckey", which as you can guess can be installed in Wiis with the D2C motherboard and is confirmed to be working just fine, but there is a catch. The installation is quite complicated as now you require to solder 31 wires and its not what an average person can do. Hell, the official site recommends that this be done by a professional. Take a look at this....

    http://www.neoasic.com/images/ins-d2ckey-logo.jpg

Now comparing this with just a 5 wire install makes me go

I've explained you the current Wii modding scene situation and now its totally up to you what you want to do, but one thing am 100% sure of is that you won't get a D2A or a D2B on any website. Those things have gone extinct. I was ULTRA LUCKY enough to get one over here in the local gray markets. Just bought myself one last week but I had to shell out $450 US for it It was a BRAND NEW premod with a clone Wiikey installed, but the latest Wiikey update worked just fine

See if you can buy one used from a friend or if you know someone and get it modded. Check out this site...

    Nintendo-Scene Wii Serial Tracker

You can use it to input any Nintendo Wii serial number and it will tell you your Wii's motherboard, aka whether its a D2A, D2B, or a D2C with legs cut or not. This way you can make sure whether a particular Wii can be modded and with which modchip before you make your purchase

I've done quite a lot of research for at least two months before I went in for the purchase but I had to shell out $50 MORE coz those bastards at the gray market came to know that the latest Wiis couldn't be modded and that was their last piece. But am very happy with the purchase All the games that I've downloaded thus far work awesome and so do Gamecube games

    Hope this info helps

I guess it's worth asking, can modding a wii allow me to play Gamecube games? And if available without extra purchase, SNES, NES etc.. (systems in virtual console with emulators/just burn the ROMs). Also, do I need Deamon tools or anything to burn the ISOs/ROMs? I think I can get an old Wii fairly cheap on Craigslist, just ask for the serial number and when bought. Anyone know a good site where I can get a pre-done modded Wii or a place where they can install is for me?

Yes it will allow you to play Gamecube games but I should tell you this. Its always better to play SAME REGION games on a SAME REGION Wii even if its modded. Current generation of modchips have partial compatibility for OUT OF REGION Wii and Gamecube games, for example NTSC games on a PAL console and vice versa, although the latest update of Wiikey promises full region compatibility but only for Gamecube games. I would recommend you to play Wii NTSC or NTSC-J games on an NTSC console. Of course you can check out on the internet and see whether a particular PAL Wii game works on an NTSC console or not, just in case if you need it.

You can play SNES and NES games using emulators made for the Gamecube. They would boot up just fine BUT you will need to buy a Gamecube controller coz once the Wii goes into "Gamecube mode" the Wii controller doesn't work. Also, you can play virtual console games with the Wii controller but as of now there is no way to "pirate" them.

Well, any burning software should work just fine and ImgBurn (one of the FREE best burning softwares) works just fine too and I would recommend it. I would also recommend you to use GOOD DVD MEDIA like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden for better boot rates and less strain on your laser, increasing your laser's life. Also, just so you know, a Wii prefers DVD-R over DVD+R

That is good and since you aren't going to do it yourself, you can get any version D2A or D2B with legs cut or not and it shouldn't be a problem for any modder to install a current generation modchip

I guess I forgot to ask this simple question directly, can the Wii with some emulator play N64 games, if so my friend would be so happy (old super smash bros). As far as controllers go, I have 2 and still have my Gamecube (though if I get this I will sell the Gamecube itself. So, does anyone know any sites where I can get a good mod and where is it recommended to download, torrents?

EDIT: Also, do these work with the wi-fi games? Also, I am thinking of getting wiikey, seems inexpensive, but right now I need to find a site to do it for me, no rush, probably gonna try to get this in a few months, but would still like to start browsing and deciding.

EDIT: Just read product can not be shipped to USA? http://www.consolesource.com/ecomm/c...am-p-2643.html

Ok I did some research and found out that N64 roms don't work with Wii just yet coz there is no Wii homebrew. Gamecube Homebrew would boot up but N64 emulation isn't good on it either. However, there is a way to play a few N64 games on the Wii using this method....

    http://www.wii-ftw.com/page/n64.selfboot.tut

There is a list of working N64 roms at the bottom of that guide. Overall, I would say its a hectic process but you can do it if you think its worth it

Your only SURE SHOT option of playing a particular game is to buy it from virtual console. I think N64 games go for $10

    Edit for the Edits :

Am sorry but I can't help you with this coz I live in India and haven't ordered much online, but here's what I bumped into a few weeks back...

That thread has been made a sticky there and those sites are considered to be good but I can't take any responsibility as such about how good they are

Can anyone at least confirm they ship to America? Or if they have used the service how long does it take to arrive? EDIT: Modchipcentral is in North America, but does not necessarily mean USA.

    http://www.wiikey.cn/resellers.html
    http://www.modchipcentral.com/store/cart.php

EDIT: I used contact us feature so hopefully I will get a reply.

Also, I may wait for the Wii to drop a bit (though modding may become harder, or possibly easier), or may not get one at all just because it is money.
