i got like four things in the device manager that don't make sense. two of them are unknown pci bridge, one is audio, when my sound is installed, one is "unknown device"

If you can get the PCI bridge installed, you'll probably get LAN and sound working. I assume they are both onboard? Do you have the mainborad drivers? Or maybe look up a driver set to match your chipset.

Yeah. You'll need to know what the chipset is. Like Via, SiS etc...and the number that follows.
