I've got a giant fancy window fan from the 70's in my bedroom window. It's designed for basically the same function as a modern air conditioner. Christ that thing is loud. Good thing it's at the far end of my room from my bed, and I keep it on low. Thing moves more than enough air down like that.
It has a tendency to blow itself out of the window, so I've got it tied down to the window frame with the shade cord.
As I was walking down the stair,
    I met a man who wasn't there.
    He wasn't there again today.
    I wish, I wish he'd go away.

I have a decent one now, with a remote control and all, but it's beginning to show it's age. They had that one (or one like it) for $19.99, as well as the one I have now.

I figured a metal one would rattle, so I didn't get it.

I suppose it would rattle if you suck at putting things together, but mine runs smooth.

My boss installed one of those 'whole house' fans in his living room. Damn thing would take the mail right out of his hands and chew it up

Due solely to your user review, I shall purchase and properly assemble the metal fan...for the sleeping enjoyment of my wife and myself for many nights to come

Yeah, he heard you work out, and suddenly forgot everything we had for so long.

    His children will miss him.
