    Default First-Person confusion...

I don't know if anyone realized this but it seems that certain people enjoy to call any games with a First-Person Perspective a first person shooter, so games like any Elder Scrolls game, or Penumbra, even if the game is in the First Person perspective and has shooting it doesn't make it a First Person Shooter, Fallout 3, Fallout 3 is a RPG, with shooting elements and it's primarily in the First Person Perspective,

A contrast to that would be RAGE, which is a First Person Shooter with RPG elements and Vehicle Racing and Combat.

That's why I typically call games, by A) the perspective, so a First Person Platformer (Mirror's Edge), and the Genera, 2D same thing, Top Down or Sidescrolling, et cetera, does anyone here get annoyed with this, or am I the only one?

I remember seeing people complain about TES III Morrowind being first person.
They didn't realise you could change the perspective.

Anyway I'm not really fussy about genre labels, but I do like FPS and RPG's that aren't turn based.

I'm with dead, I don't really care about labels, but anyway, the perspectives and genres have nothing to do, I don't see where is the confusion..

I think he is referring to people calling Elder Scrolls games FPS, when there is no actual shooting in them

Yeah, I played Skyrim on a friends PC, I should at least get it on X360 or PS3 so I can play it a bit more, I didn't get very far and the PC ver is buggy as hell.

Gonna try Arena if I ever feel like it.

Skyrim is really buggy on ps3 too apparently.
Plus I dunno if they've managed to fix it so DLC's will work.
So PC or 360 are the best options really.

If you haven't tried Morrowind give it a shot...lots of mods and it'll run on older hardware.
Even if you use a standard version you'll have access to levitation spells, which is pretty cool.
Games older than that require dosbox iirc
I've got them all here somewhere, but it's been a while
The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard is another interesting one, but more third person action/adventure (you have a fixed character, no customisation).

I'll try it, I don't like customization unless I can make the guy look the way I want him to.

Dun do it!, seriously bad idea. Because of the ram allocation the PS3 will get glitchier and glitchier as you play. Some people (weirdly) enough don't experience the problems, this whole PS3 affair is a huge PR crisis for Beth , Arena and Dawnstar are MUCH more difficult then the other three. Oh and even with DOSbox the games are not working on my PC

    Anyway,

But the game isn't revolved around the shooting aspect, and it's just an Non Linear(open world/sandbox) Action Role Playing Game with bows, which is not unheard of xP,

Another thing that really annoys me is when people call Third Person Shooters a FPS, at least they got the S part right, :shrugs: I am just really finicky with the appropriate usage of words, or terms or abbreviations.

I don't know why but I can never get into Morrowind, to slow I guess :shrugs:, mah ADHD can't handle it.

Dawnstar is one of the mobile phone games iirc.
You probably meant to say Daggerfall?

You should be able to get the older games running, but like I said it's been a while (I'm not sure if I had them all running on XP, but definitely haven't tried win7).

Morrowind is more difficult at the start than Oblivion and Skyrim, but obviously not as difficult as the earlier dos games.
After you've carefully spent some time levelling up it's pretty easy.
It was basically the game that encouraged me to buy an original Xbox

Yeah sorry, I meant Daggerfall xP, Morrowind is slow, not highly difficult, I enjoy the atmosphere , but something about it annoys me, it's not the graphics, all the character animations annoy the hell out of me, but that's to be expected from a game from 2002, I can make money more quickly on Morrowind than on Oblivion or Skyrim... Last time I played I was level one and I ended with something around 4k.

I thought Daggerfall was the best, really fun game with Morrowind second. They are working on a new engine so we can play Daggerfall without DOSBoX http://xlengine.com/
