ps2 games on ps3

can ps2 games finally be run on ps3 and be able to save play normally? if not is it a good idea to get one of the older ps3's? by that I mean wont have problems with it braking because it is older or just in case the older models had problems themselves.

PS2 DVD's and CD's no, that is only for older PS3's

PS2 PSN yes and you can make your own this has been something for some years now though

I don't have a hacked PS3 though and don't intend to do that either so not looked into the ins and outs

It is emulation though

yes you can play ps2 ISOs with the ps3 but ONLY with custom firmware and your ps3 type with backward compatibility (mostly FAT PS3). and even with all that, the games you can run is limited & taking a lot of ps3 resources (processor & stuff)

all modded PS3's can play PS2 games just newer versions use the emulator that is part of PS2 Classics PSN downloads instead of from CD/DVD, so ISO images need to be converted like PSX games can be for use on PSP the same thing applies for PS2 games on a PS3

and yeah just like you said, i was too lazy to write all that. and its really time consuming to learn to use the emulator and stuff to run ps2 iso on my ps3, but it worth trying though it didnt works well for me (~_~) <= compatibility issues

anywaay, just play your ps2 iso games ON PS2, or download a ported version of the games for ps3.

complicated not really

the most complicated part is modding the console to start with

the emulator runs just like any PS3 game, just it's a PS2 game you are running instead, there are no real emulator settings as such
the converting software is simple

so once converted and installed on the PS3 it will show like any other PSN game and it launches the exact same way you launch PSN games or even PS3 retail discs if auto start is not set, in effect it is a PSN game just not officially available

when you say mod do you mean install new software or hardware modifications?

The machine itself needs to be modded to play pirated software, that could be via software if there is some sort of exploit for the firmware it is currently on or hardware via a mod chip
