Noob Questions About: MAME

I wonder how I get roms for MAME to work,
I have downloaded roms and used WinRAR and 7-zip to make it working but when I have made it what should i do to make it work?
MAME say it does not works because it is not right roms.

your extracting the roms, don't.....
Just drop the zip files inside the rom folder instead

but yeah, just put the roms in the rom folder without unzipping them. same with bios files if they're needed for the rom(s) you wish to play.

and make sure the rom version matches the mame version you're using.
