dont bother with joyconfig, configure the control in retroarch itself.

Where did you install the emulator? I am on Win7 64 ultimate and my PC does not like running PCSX2 when it is installed in Program Files(x86) and my guess is that your PC doesn't like RetroArch there.

So I made a folder called C:\Game\PCSX2, ran the emulator as administrator, and it worked fine.

    Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Retroarch is just a folder and its contents, no installing.

Best versions of FF's are on PSX & PSP (that includes the orginal NES and SNES games)

FF & FFII PSP with graphics updated and lots of extra game play for both [Original games from the NES, FFII was JP only]
FF III PSP 3D graphics and new game play[Original game was on the NES JP only]
FF IV PSP with extra story alot of extra story called the After Years [Originally on the SNES aka FF II for the US]
FF V PSX (mostly fmv's and slight graphics updates otherwise much the same) [Originally on the SNES JP only]
FF VI PSX (same as above) [Originally on the SNES aka FF III for the US]
FF VII PSX [The first PSX original Final Fantasy game]
    FF VIII PSX
    FF IX PSX
    FF X PS2 there is also a X-2
    FF XII PS2
FF XIII PS3/360 there is also XIII-2 and Lightning Returns

I skipped FF XI and FF XIV both are online only
There is also a FF Type 0 for PSP and newer systems PS4 and Xbox One

All the above versions got an English release

Note there are a few side FFVII games on PS2 and PSP, the PSP game is well worth a play that is a prequel story to FFVII

There are other Final Fantasy games but I only covered the main ones mostly

Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII for Mobile Phones, sadly Jap only anime style graphics game
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for PSP a very good RPG prequel using visuals similar to the film that was a sequel to the original game (tells the story of Zack and Cloud just before the Original games events)

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII for PS2 is the only game sequel to the original game
