Silent Hill 2 XBOX FPS drops

Hi I have experiencing FPS drops when I walking around the city in Silent hill 2 for original xbox is it normal or not I´m playing from HDD

Can't say I noticed any, though I do play from HDD, I stopped using discs a long time back, quicker load times ect... bonus no need to burn anything

Helps that I replaced the 8GB HDD with a 700GB HDD though

I playing it from HDD and very fast every game is loading for me very fast and have it in F:

Xbox DVD drives are rather sucky 90% of issues that Xbox users have are directly related to the DVD drive. this includes reading retail discs.

It's been a long time since I played it but I don't recall any problems
Which version are you using? The Euro version is Inner Fears and the NA version is Restless Dreams iirc.

Is the region of the console the same?

It's the NTSC version I have been playing myself (NA) but via a PAL console but the dash video mode is patched to NTSC

For Silent Hill 4 anyway I was playing it before I had video patched the dash and that does lag even if you set the video to display at PAL 60 or NTSC on a PAL xbox but if you video patch the dash it runs perfect, again that was from HDD

not but I using enigmah video mode switcher which change my console to NTSC

Then it should run just fine, the issue is reading the disc that can be either just be the xbox DVD drive that would not shock me in the slightest as that is something very well known, or low quality DVD media (the xbox can read DVD+R's by the way that is a higher quality media than DVD-R's) or just a bad burn (burned at a speed that is too fast can cause that, general rule slower burns the more reliable the burning is)

My mistake could of sworn you said in your first post your not playing from HDD, I just miss read that.

Then no idea why you are getting FPS drops at all, never noticed any slow downs myself and I am also playing via a PAL console with the Video Mode Patched, P.S. that does not totally change a PAL console into a NTSC one by the way, but that does allow over 99% of NTSC games to work as they should with only one game that will not work as the DVD video mode needs to be changed also for that one game (It's an american sports game I forget the exact one there are so many of them)

I may have a little play sometime later though to verify I am not getting lags, would need to re-upload it though I was trying to make it run in widescreen correctly as it is it just stretches the image rather than true widescreen, my messing failed though mostly I extended the image by a small amount but the filters used do not enter the extended visual field, plus it wasn't extended enough to start with

Just play it through it's very very short anyway, that part is even shorter there isn't much to explore

Double check and make sure the game is running in NTSC mode not PAL 60

Ah I think I know what you are talking about, that may seem like it is lagging, when you run you do slow down after a short distance because you run out of breath or get worn out whatever, if you stop to catch your breath (Maria kind of nods her head for a bit then stops and stands with her head upright that is you catching your breath) you will run at full pelt again for a short distance then slow down again.

If you walk the entire game it will not slow down at all, if this is true then you are mistaken an effect for lag, the same effect is used in the main game also with James

Yeah I know that maria slow down after short distance but for me really game lagging when I walking around the city the game sometimes got the maybe 3-5 FPS for 2 seconds if you want I can record video for you
