Your PS2 needs to be modded to play pirates. The easiest boot method is ESR.

If you already have FMCB then scroll down to post #4 about patching images before burning to disc.

Please note PS2 CD based games have to be converted to DVD to be able to be patched and used.

If you come across a game in CD format then ask

DVD images are usually iso format though, other image formats are usually CD.

There is no single way of doing that and not every CD game can be converted to DVD

If you have a modchip then your console may possibly play DVD and CD games. Modchips do not require games to be patched.

Depends on the game, most games are released on DVD though

You don't need to patch images before burning to disc then.
Your chip should work fine with PS2 DVD & CD games (maybe there are a few games that don't work I really can't remember now).
Even dual layer PS2 games should work as long as your PS2 console version is ok using DVD+R DL discs.
Even PSOne games should be ok as well, you may just have to make the chip use PSX mode.

Make sure you are using decent DVD media...the brand itself isn't as important as the manufacturer.
Proper Verbatim discs are good, although proper Ritek discs are ok as well, and cheaper.


Edit: I think you can still use ESR patched games with Matrix anyway, but I have never tested it out myself.
I've only ever had a Modbo 4 chip myself, which is a Matrix clone (same firmware, but you can't update the firmware).


Use imgburn to burn images to disc.
