Default softmodded wii trying to run an update to play epic mickey in the drive

Epic mickey is the actual game and disc, and if we try to play it in my sm'd wii, it says an update is required, and it will add some new channels, blah blah blah. I ran it once, ruined the softmod. Had to be redone, which thankfully is easy, thank you zorlon for showing me the way to do it so quickly. Anyway, how do I block the update?

You're lucky the update did not perma-brick your Wii.

I would advise you to NEVER run updates on a soft modded Wii.

    Ever.

    Seriously.

How's this helpful in any way, shape or form? The poster is clearly talking about playing the game off a disc. In which case, connecting to the Internet has absolutely nothing to do with it. Please read the post properly before making a reply.

It has been years since I had to worry about this sort of thing (I use clean dumps + updates enabled with WODE), but if you have a backup of the game you can block the update on your PC.

Used WiiBrickBlocker myself back when I was burning discs for people...but there are probably other methods to deal with updates.

Are Wii updates not like psn game updates? I thought he was saying when he puts in the disk it starts updating from the internet.

Edit: oh, firmware not just the game.

You don't need a net connection at all. The game discs contain all update info.

You should keep your internet connection there are online games or games with online features that can be used even though your system is softmodded, it's not like the PS3 or 360 that block consoles that are modded, the Wii can go online as much as you like and you don't need to worry about getting your console blocked.

    Mod projects - XBOX
Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1 & 2 - online quests in offline mode packs [COMPLETE]
    [Quest Packs Collection]
GTA San Andreas - Hot Coffee [COMPLETE]
[Mod ready] & [Full ISO ready]
GTA San Andreas - Real Car Names extra content mod [WIP] [Back burner, just won't have the time ]

I've never bothered with online play in the past, only recently did it a few times on psn to get a couple of uncharted 2 trophies.
I've downloaded 360 stuff from live that was free, and grab updates when I install a new game...but I leave it disconnected most of the time.

Never bothered using my Wii online because I saw no reason to

What he is saying is; You're going to need to use a back-up of the game and not the retail disk if you want to block the update, which is where WiiBrickBlocker comes into play. (I think. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.)

I don't play a lot of games online either but there is the odd one including on the Wii that is fun to play online, helps when it's with people you know, so it's not spoiled by cheating

You can even use a Wii type banner thingy, more just to show what you have played rather than a score show off

You can still use the Retail discs there is no need to make a backup

If you wanted to play from backup then there is no need for WiiBrickBlocker as you can rip out the update when you make a backup

That was the way I did it years ago when I got some games for other people irl.
    Download a game.
    Use WiiBrickBlocker.
    Burn to disc.

The only retail games I've ever made backups of myself have been proper dumps via WODE...I have never used softmod myself, but maybe Zorlon can explain what you need to do.

Unless you have an USB HDD then there is no need to backup games you have retail discs for, just play from the Retail Disc + WiiBrickBlocker

Backups from HDD do not to run the update anyway

Yes there are other ways to prevent updates but WiiBrickBlocker is one of the few that works for everyone

You know, seeing as he installed a complete modding package he could very well have disc update blocking stuff installed, just not enabled. This stuff came in along with Priiloader and such AFAIK. Try holding down reset when you boot it up and see if a menu pops up? If one does, skim over the options and look for such a feature.
*PSA* Wii Redump collector's can now unscrub ISO files. So scrubbed games can now be verified. You can find the program to do this here
