    Exclamation Help with PSX games.

First of all I apologize for asking questions that have probably been asked here thousands of times and if this post is in the wrong place.

So I've downloaded an original Playstation game with the intentions of playing it on a slimeline PS2 which has been modded. Up until now I've always just copied PS2 games which came out as an .ISO file and then simply just needed patching with an ESR disc patcher. Original Playstation games are a different format and the patcher I have doesn't work.

Could someone please explain how it's done?

    Thread moved.

Patching games for PS2 softmod is only for DVD based games.
You can't patch PS2 CD based games (but you can try converting most to DVD, then patch).

    You can't patch PSX games.

So for original Playstation games such as Tomb Raider do you not need to patch them? All you need to do is burn the file (.MDF or .IMG) to a CD-R?

I'm really sorry to be a pain dude...

The ESR mod only read PS2 DVD software that has been patched

ESR can't read PS2 CD games or PSX CD games patched or otherwise (PS2 CD games can sometimes be converted to DVD but not all and PSX games can not be converted to DVD at all)

The best method is via a mod chip

There is a swap mod but you do require at least 1 original PSX CD the software used will stop the drive then you need to change disc without the console knowing (slide card for bulky and for the PS2 slim, flip lid censors blocked to make the console think the flip lid is always closed)

PSXLoader.elf is what you need for that (google will find that easy enough) you can load that via FMCB

This is with every swap trick specially for CD games, games with CDDA tracks can have problems, Data only track games should be fine though mostly.

Myself I don't use the above I still have mod chipped PSone (it's the only console I have with a mod chip inside) asides from that I don't want the censors blocked on my PS2 for my slim models flip lid

The "swap mod" is what I've previously been doing, I have a couple of copied PSX games from my childhood and I can play them just fine on my PS2. I just don't know how I prepare the actually games when it comes to burning the files onto disc. If that makes any sense.

You don't do anything just burn the PSX disc image with Imgburn via it's cue or ccd file

Unless you are talking about how to extract them or convert ecm and ape files???

If it's just you don't know what to do with the ECM & APE files then look at http://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?57757

I'm not really sure what APE or ECM files are...

From the game I download I have a CUE, IMG and SUB file. I assume the .IMG file is the one I'm meant to burn to disc? or it more complicated that that?

Nope the cue file should be used as I just stated in my last post, the img file is required though and does have the game data on it, but if it does use CDDA data as well, burning directly from the *.img will not include any CDDA tracks that may be also stored inside that img file when you burn that way, the cue file tells whatever reads it what tracks are contained inside the img file or bin file.

Read http://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?85816 for standard Sony PSX and PS2 burning instructions

If you need real help when you get round to burning something let us know though, I am very willing to help, it is a bit annoying though trying to help when the help needs repeated, that's just no fun

It's not to say I didn't test the method out on my PS2 though .

I get that it's frustrating dude. My bad.

The method I used to swap mod my PS2 was this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uw4B3...eature=mh_lolz

I assume I done it right because the disc spins when the tray is opened. So I can only guess that I burnt the files incorrectly, but I did follow your guide and burn the .cue file.
