Default Xbox HDD Upgrade guide [Old IDE PC required]

    NEEDED

    • A modded xbox
    • The modded xbox's eeprom.bin file
    • A replacement lockable HDD a IDE/ATA HDD or a SATA HDD with a SATA to IDE/ATA converter http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/ has a good compatibility list and should be checked before you proceed.
    • **IDE/ATA drives only go to a max of 750GB. SATA drive will require an IDE/ATA converter
    • An olde computer with IDE cables for HDD/CD, the comp also needs a working CD-Rom drive (DVD-Rom or -RW are fine aswell, you just need to be able to boot a CD)
    • The equipment needed to take the case off the Xbox and your olde comp, screw drivers ect..
    • A machine to build the CD on and burn it to a CD-R

    RECOVER THE EEPROM.BIN

This should be on your original xbox HDD stored in E:\Dashboard\backup
You can either FTP this or you can copy it into a save folder on a Xbox memcard or Xbox formatted USB stick

If you have lost your eeprom you may need to run through
the basic exploit from scratch (I am not covering this here myself)

You can also buy or make a eeprom reader so you can dump it directly
via an old computer with a serial mouse port (again I'm not going to cover that here)

There are possibly other methods aswell

    BUILDING THE LINUX BOOT CD

First things first you need to create that Linux CD

    extract xboxhdm 1.9 modded
(the above already has the C drive part sorted, if you are wondering)

Next make sure the eeprom.bin is in the the linux\eeprom\ path.
I can't provide an eeprom it is different for every xbox

Next step is just to run make-iso-win.bat

Now you can burn the outputted linux.iso to a CD-R at the slowest speed your burner can

    PREPARE YOUR OLDE PC

remove all HDD's from the target PC

hook the new HDD directly to the PC to the main IDE cable on the master slot
(make sure the pins are set to master drive)

the CD-Rom drive can be on Master of the secondary IDE
(also ensure the pins are set correctly)

Boot the PC to bios mode first and change the Primary HDD
setting from auto to user, it should fill out the information for you...

you can now insert your CD-R now... save and exit

Your CD-R will boot now [Note watch this boot as the first menu
will automatically proceed on it's own if you do not respond to it]

    LINUX PROCESS

    Default

    CLONE XBOX HDD
If you are not wanting to clone the drive, jump to RESTART YOUR COMPUTER HERE

    RESTART YOUR COMPUTER HERE

Now you can pop the HDD into the xbox and boot it as normal, if you skipped the clone HD option you will need to run through the save exploit to soft mod it again

I will also add info on getting use of the whole drive, but to give very basic info you need a small tool called XBpartitioner (version 1.3 or higher) that runs directly on your xbox allowing you to format F and G partitions up to 1TB, you need this for drives over 128GB, because if you go over 128GB you can no longer add more files and the xbox can not read any more files past that 128GB mark, XBpartitioner just lets you change the cluster size from 16k to 32k for 256GB, 64k for 512GB and 128k for 1TB sized partitions

The above is one reason why not to bother with clone HDD but it does save having to redo the soft-mod, but I would just empty the F drive and the G drive if you have a G drive to make cloning go quicker and save you loosing what ever you have in those partitions
