Default Noob Topic: Side effects of using an unstable emulator?

I'm quite the noob when it comes to DC emulating, so I'm a bit unsure about downloading nullDC 1.0.4, which is classified as unstable. Is someone able to describe the side effects of using it? Also, is there any place I can get a previous, more stable version like 1.0.3, or is service for it discontinued?

    Side effects none fixes lots

The NullDC team stopped releasing windows compiled execs but they never stopped releasing source code

https://code.google.com/p/nulldc/source/list lists all the changes made to NullDC
If you want one of the newer build we have them at http://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?66669

The best way to play Dreamcast is still via an actual Dreamcast though, so if you own one pull it out and play some of the Mil-CD rips (rips being a very loose term as most Mil-CD rips have nothing ripping or re-sampled) even better via a VGA cable

Most Dreamcast hardware can play these without any sort of modding or any tricks, just direct booting from CD-R

Alright, thank you. Also, is NullDC able (stability-wise) to consistently play games at a decent framerate with other programs running, perhaps Fraps or the like?

depends on your system but in general nope, saying that though I am on a low end laptop and use NullDC just for testing nothing more, I play games on a real console

emulation wise it is far from perfect some game are not playable at all a few run just about perfect and some have moderate to serious problems, so it also depends what you are playing

you will be able to tell more once you try though

Dreamcast is a little less demanding than PS2 but this depends what each is trying to play
