Default DVD drive not ejecting in PS2

    Hello again everyone,

I just tryed to start my system again and found out it partially works, the DVD Drive will not eject now. However the eject LED will light up and blink a few times before turning back off, I am able to get into the system settings but that is it.

I remember when I tried to modify the PS2 that a pad had came off... this picture shows where http://sksapps.com/diagrams/ps2/Modbo4/V7V8-usa.jpg right between connections "V" and connection "U" if anyone knows how I can repair the lifted trace could someone help me out?

Also If Jazzmarazz finds this, I was able to sort out the no video problem to a fuse If I remember correctly it was at PS-11 for the GH-022 motherboard, the fuse was numbered 63 and was a 2.3 amp can be found here http://psx-scene.com/forums/f110/map...cations-64295/

Hopefully I can get this sorted out once and for all; thanks in advance,

I think I've found the correct part http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=...64FM&_osacat=0 now the only thing I need is to get the part and carefully remove the IC... I have found this link http://www.wtkasa.com
    /psx/la_replacement.php

A youtube video which uses a copper wire and a lot of heat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCUSwADP6DE

A youtube video which uses enamel wire (or Coaxial wire?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlSY1uaw0GA

Just thought I would post what I have found, also which link should I use as this is the first time I have ever tried to desolder an SMD IC chip like this and I really don't have a second change to get it right (in terms of the motherboard pads).

I also found this that might detail the pad I lifted near the mechacon chip http://www.eserviceinfo.com/download.php?fileid=39054

If someone finds this and has any advice thank you in advance,

just a suggestion, you could just buy a working Disc drive for a PS2 on Ebay and replace the unit as a whole instead of just some parts, unless you would rather spend time and not money, just a thought

This is a very nice suggestion, but I already have 30 for a console I bought at gamestop, 30 for the modbo 4.0, and 30 to replace a laser that I killed; (the zif connector came clean off and took some contacts with it). I figure just get it working and use it for what its worth, that way its not a paperweight so to speak, still waiting for the part, and thank you for the suggestion Wolfwood428, I actually forgot about the full drive assemblies, will keep that in mind for the future

Just got the IC chip, BA5815FM; does anyone know some tips on how to install this? I use a RadioShack Dual heat iron http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062730 I think I could use diagonal cutters to get rid of the old IC since it is dead (tray not ejecting, laser not moving). I also have a 45 watt desoldering iron that I modded following this link http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/07/h...oldering-iron/

Any advice is appreciated and thank you in advance,

Just replaced the BA5815FM IC chip, however the tray still does not eject, all fuses are okay. Could the Spindle driver IC http://www.ebay.com/itm/PS2-Replacem...item256ab3f1c0 have anything to do with the tray not ejecting??? Also I did manage to find this http://www.ebay.com/itm/PS2-Lens-Loo...item256ab3f166 what is this part for? Also what is this part http://www.ebay.com/itm/PS2-Replacem...item256ab3f1be I really hope I can get this console working again, does anyone have a service manual for the GH-022 motherboard a version 7 39001 PS2, I tore off a pad with desoldering wick and it is right between V and U in the modbo diagram in the first post.

Any help would be greatly appricated thank you in advance,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I would get yourself a new PS2.
You've put a little too much into this console to still have nothing to show for it.

I say salvage your chip and either sell the thing on ebay AS-IS or use it for parts in your next PS2. They are relatively cheap now-a-days.

The reason the above mentioned PS2 went bad was becuase of an indecent installing a mod chip.

Thank for the replys Jazzmarazz and amboxer21

I do however still have the HD7 laser that came with the console (I accidentally damaged the zif connector on the ribbon circuit, when I first fitted the chip) I suppose I could replace the flex circuit from the original with the laser I got on ebay (the original laser coils measure 4.4 ohms for coil 2 and 4.7 ohms for coil 1)

I was able to replace the fuse and it now has video, the BA5815FM is replaced and I suspect I may need to replace the BA6664FM since it is not ejecting and not spinning the disk. If you remember in a video link I gave before Jazz, that I showed part of the cd tray track had come off, could that be causing the tray to not eject as well?

If/ When I get something working, I will probably get a few cheap memory cards and mod w/ FMCB, this way I and just use the KHS-400C instead of HD-7 (too expensive I think) with lenschanger. I know that the PS2 can use IDE hard drives for games that support it, but what about SATA, wouldn't it have to be 2.5" form factor?

Thank you again for the replys Jazzmarazz and amboxer21,

Sata is a no. The network adapter has ONLY connection for IDE.
If you want to try, you MIGHT be able to fit a 2.5" SATA with an adapter, given the adapter uses the 4pin molex for power and can fit without shorting inside of the enclosure.

    Thanks for the info Jazzmarazz,

If I would sell the PS2 for parts I could probably get most of what I put into it back, If I sell it for whole as parts I should probably price around 15.00 - 20.00 range.

I might have forgot to mention this but I have a slim console that hasn't been used in ages cause of the guide arm for the laser, is there any place that sells just the guide arm, I have seen on ebay and richspxsparts.com that they sell the full assembly or the laser but thats it. It is SCPH 79001.

Will see what I can do about that PS2 in term of selling or selling each part.

    Thanks again,
    HaloSlayer255

I am having the same issue with a PS2 I got from my friend's retarded brother, I'm glad I stumbled upon this while browsing the forum.
