Questions about running games on the X-Box 360

Question 1.) Can games be played from an external hard drive and if so, what app can be downloaded to do this or is the app already packaged with the device's operating system?

Question 2.) If it is possible to run games from an external hard drive, what should the directory folder for the games be called and should the downloaded games be in an unpacked format where files and file folders can be accessed or does the game have to be in a disc image file format?

Question 3.) Is the X-Box 360 backward compatible and can play X-Box games or can a 3rd party app be downloaded to run the X-Box games?

Question 4.) Can 3rd party apps be downloaded as installer files through a PC and installed into the X-Box 360 by plugging in a USB device?

Firstly to play any backup media you do need a modded system whatever system you use to play them

Yeah the 360 can play xbox original games though the backwards compat is not perfect, most games are fine though some will just have missing features (XboxLive features may not be available) the are a few that just will not work

You used to need to download backward compat for xbox from the live store (it's free) I don't know if the updates since they done it that way let you play xbox original games anyway now though

You can buy hardware to let you run games from an external HDD (modding may still be required) basicly it emulates via hardware the internal DVD drive via an external HDD

For the PS3 I just downloaded an app for running games from an external hard drive using my PC and then installed the app on the PS3 by plugging in a USB flash drive into the USB slot. Since my X-Box 360 has USB slots, can I do the same thing?

Additionally, can I also download the backward compatible app using my PC and also installing the app by plugging in the USB flash drive into the X-Box 360 USB slot?

Nope

By disc you used to be able to (I'm sure you couldn't do that by USB at the time this may have changed though) I do not know if you can still do that though, but that was how I enabled xbox original game booting on my 360 that is a pre slim model, installed via a CD-R on my unmodded console
