Why doesn't my PSP seem to charge, or seems to charge erratically? For some reason the VSH by default disables charging when USB is connected. I enabled it.

When I first got it I could see that it was charging, but now the battery on the upper-right corner just stays still no matter what (wall charger and USB connect).

But sometimes I end up with 2 bars instead of 1, so it does charge at some point.

And no, I haven't been playing it the whole time. I've let it sit for hours connected to the PC and the wall, it doesn't charge (usually, and never to 3 bars).

And it's the same whether I'm in CFW or OFW or have the system off.

edit: I unplugged and plugged into a different USB port and I magically got another bar of power. But it still didn't have the charging animation. So am I basically driving without a speedometer?

Yep that sounds about right that is why you have the option to chrage or not while in USB mode, because it doesn't display the charging correctly while hooked up to USB, you would of thought they fixed that though it's been like that since the first 1000 series

PSP 1000 = Emulation powerhouses, built TOUGH.
    PSP 2000/3000 = Flimsy-feeling, built for girls.

"Softmod" ? Meh, that word doesnt appeal to me...sort of like "I'm going in HALF-way!".

PSP1000 (Bad motion trails on low quality screen) (Good UMD tray)
PSP2000 (Less motion trails on screen) (Flimsy UMD tray I don't use UMD's)
PSP3000 (What motion trails) (Flimsy UMD tray still, who uses UMD's)
PSPGo much the same as PSP3000 for the screen but smaller, nice slide to hide controls and has blue tooth so you can use a propper PS3 pad (What trails What UMD tray)

UMD = Useless Media Disc (can't even use it as a coffee mat, it's just too small )

Softmod play everything without need of silly UMD discs have 20 games on the go without 20 UMD's I fail to see the downside

Softmod = faster load times than UMD and no disc read sounds

Homebrew every way you look, no it's not a SNES it's a PSP or is it a Megadrive or a PC engine, no it's still a PSP

It's official. My battery will not charge. It will only live when connected to the USB. It seems to be stuck at 4%. I wonder if it's because I downloaded the newer CFW. It wasn't like this when I had the outdated one. I wonder what stupid mistake I'm making this time? (The answer is to go back to the older CFW, but I drink at night and don't want to risk effing things up.)

    Btw, I love NesterJ.

Pretty much yeah. The only ones I can think of off the top of my head that work reasonably well using this chip are Super Mario World 2, Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy 3/6.
"I think that the problem with this video is it is highly derivative of many popular bands within the genre. Although when viewed on its own merits, it does have a deeper groove. However what it has in groove, it lacks in originality. One can't help but be reminded of such bands as Pearl Jam, White Zombie, Suicidal Tendencies and other bands that bear the mantle of so called "Alternative Rock". One is even reminded of Lorie Anderson when she wore curlers. Hehehmhm! This video speaks less to the heart and more to the sphincter. In closing, I think Korn would do well to learn more from -"

Custom firmware uses official firmware in it to work, no that will not cause problems with the battery, have you tested charging without the USB plugged in

Make sure the charger is connected firmly, I don't know if the Go has indicator lights or not but if it does make sure that is on when plugged into the power cable

iirc it also depends on the usb cable you're using. some of them don't have some of the pins so some features won't work on them. not sure though.

I have not read back much, so if this has been discussed, you can kick me...

You have to enable USB Charging in the system menu. I believe the default option is Off.

    Yeah, I did that.

To the other recent posters: The battery charged normally until I installed the CFW. This leads me to believe that all the hardware is fine.

I uninstalled cfw, got rid of everything, formatted system storage, restored default settings... still won't charge. Next I'm going to take the PSP apart, remove the battery and put it back in. Maybe, just maybe it'll wake it up or reset it or something. If this doesn't work, I may look into getting another battery and/or see if Gamestop will actually take it back.

They're not going to take it back if you void the warranty by opening it. It hasn't been long since you bought it, so I suggest you just switch it out no questions asked and try again.

I wouldn't take it apart if you plan on keeping the option of returning it to Gamestop.

    EDIT: ninja'd
