Forgot how to activate "games" in ps2!!

Greetings friends,

I have borrowed my cousin's ps2 and i have a major problem.He is not remember how to activate the chip to play "games",the console only plays original games and when i asked him he told me that was a special way to play the "games",something with the reset or something.Right now it can play only "ssx tricky" and when i try to launch any other non original dvd it keeps gives me the message insert a Playstation 2 format disc,please post the ways you run your disc's in your console.

Thank you for your response,unfortunately i tried the methods in the link you've send me,but nothing happened.The console was modified back in 2002-03,if that gives a clue about the chip.The console i once had was modified last time in the same year with the console of my cousin and if i'm not wrong i remember something about a "Messiah 2" chip,maybe my cousin's console is modified with a similar chip.Ahh!How stupid i was to sell my excellent ps2 in 2004 just to raise money to take the driver's licence,now everything would be ok.

Instructions for both Magic 3 and Messiah 2

HK MESSIAH2 INSTRUCTIONS:

Booting Instructions:

• PS2 CD/CDr/DVD/DVD-r : Insert the disc and close tray. Hold reset to power off to standby mode. Let go of reset button. Tap reset button quickly, to start.
• PSX CD/CDr and DVD movies: Insert the disc and hold reset for a few seconds to turn off the PS2 (standby). Turn the PS2 back on by holding reset until the blue light on the eject button lights up.
• You should always turn the PS2 off (standby) for a few seconds before changing between modes (PSX, DVD, PS2 - copies and originals).
• To turn the modchip off (to play PS1 games that may detect the modchip): Turn off the PS2 (go to standby) and hold reset for at least 5 full seconds. The next time you reset the PS2 the modchip will turn itself back on.

MAGIC3 INSTRUCTIONS:

With the disc in the tray and the tray closed:

• For PS2 games, power up normally from STANDBY with RESET button. A single tap is required.
• For PS1 games & DVD Movies, power up from STANDBY with RESET button held until the blue EJECT light comes on; then release RESET and the disk will boot.
• Please turn off the PS2 (to standby) before changing Mode (PS1/PS2/DVD)
• For soldering the power and ground wires, please use thicker cables (22awg=21swg)
• For soldering to the other points, please use 32awg = 34swg cables

I tried but nothing happened,only the original games are playable.I decided to open the console and it is definately modded,is it against the rules to post photos of the board so if anyone familiar with chips can recognize the type and can give me a tip?

I can't tell much from your pics, are there any wires on the flip side? It looks like all the wires go to the other side of the PCB the gray blob doesn't seem to have any of the wires going to or from it, unless they do from under the PCB

thats the same side I want to see under that

P.S. be carefull with those ribbons those connections break too easy

The chip is possibly just taped on the other side, you could just peel it back real carefully and see what chip it actually is

It is ok friend,i decided to go to a technician to solve the issue and to see if any maintenance is needed because the console is inactive for 3-4 years,thank you for the response and for your help .
