This is my first post, and I want it to help with the ESR List.
Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection [NTSC-J] doesn't work. It reports unknown media.
what exactly does it do then and at what point during the process does it report unknown media
what media did you actually use by the way

Well, using the following Free MCboot options:
Disc Launcher: Black screen and takes me back to FMCB menu.
ESR GUI: Calls it unknown media.
PS2 Browser: Disc Read Error
EDIT: If it helps, this is what I used to, as far as the backup goes:
A Sony-brand DVD-R and ESR disc patcher GUI v024a.
The patched ISO image was burnt to the DVD-R at 3x.

Sounds like it was not even patched possibly just not extracted correctly
You can't say the ESR does not work with the game if you fail to patch it
All ESR patcher does change the descriptor for DVD data to DVD video to trick the PS2 into thinking it has a DVD video inserted
No point at all in burning it if the patching does not work
If the ESP Patcher GUI is failing then no it won't work, thing is the patcher would work on any standard DVD data iso image file including PS2 PC and other standard DVD iso images (Xbox GameCube/Wii ect ect are not standard DVD's, a PC typically can not read those by normal means)
I'm going to download this myself and see if it works or not

I am at loss here.
Well, when I ran the ESR Patcher GUI with the ISO it said that the game was "patched successfully". As for the Vampire RIP, I used one that was posted in this very forum here.
Welp, this is my first time dealing with Backup Loading with PS2, so sorries if I am messing up, I thought I had documented myself properly.
The loader should flash a few colours/colors before booting the DVD up, did this happen at all??
P.S. What exact media are you using??

Uh... DVD-R? I'm sorry I don't understand the media question. It's an ISO I used ESR Patcher on, then I burnt that ESR-patched ISO into a DVD-R using IMGBurn, then I put the DVD-R inside the PS2 and I tried both Disc Launch and ESR GUI options.
I get the colors when I load games from the PS2's hard drive disc, but from this burnt DVD-R I only get black screen and then it self-resets.
I will just have to test this myself
Most DVD-R's are not reliable though, DVD+R's have a higher success rate, but the older bulky PS2 did not have +R support due to it being released after the PS2 was released, optionally you can try and set the book type to DVD-ROM in ImgBurn for DVD+R's
Burning speed just use the slowest you can, if that is 3x so be it
For more info on DVD media though I do recommend you check what you have via http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia they don't have everything reviewed/commented on but for a lot it does have customer findings for readability ect including with consoles
Sony are not the best brand in general for DVD media but like most companies that do media there is good and bad
For more information of DVD media
I thought you may of been using RW media that in general is not readable for games in a PS2

So, this is what I saw from the website you linked about the Sony DVD-R I've been using:
Plays on 0 DVD Players
Plays not on 0 DVD Players
Burn Reliability is Mixed
DVD Reliability is Mixed
PC Reliability is Good
Console Reliability is N/A
I can't find +R anywhere close to me, I'm afraid I did got 2 more DVD-Rs to test... I'll try see if I can 1x this time
EDIT: Welp, I tried Klonoa 2, which supposedly works. I honestly don't know what went wrong, I checked that the ISOs were working correctly, my PS2 can still read physical games and DVD movies...

Just sounds like the media used is pure junk
P.S. I presume you did remember to patch the ISO before burning and is recognised as a DVD video instead of a game (this is normal for ESR patched games) but it just does not boot or the disc is not even recognised

The Warriors - NTSC|U - DVD-R (MCC 03RG20) - FAILS
It says a PS2DVD is detected right away, but after hitting launch then it's just a black screen forever. No flashing colors.
TimeSplitters - NTSC|U - DVD-R (MCC 03RG20) - FAILS
It said PS2DVD is detected, I hit launch, all the colors flashed, and then it just went to a black screen forever. I did have to convert this one from CD to DVD first as well, but I followed the guide exactly.
I made sure both were patched and that DVD type burned at 8x is working for the dozen other games I've used them for.
Are there plans to further update ESR to work with the failed games or should I try some sort of disc swap method to get these to run? Thanks for the dedication in updating this list!
