I like All the 2D ones, and FFVIII.
Honestly did not care for FFVII.
FF VI easily for me. I could listen to Terra's theme every week.
The main series past X has not interested me really. Sure it looks OK and plays great but there's a lot of fluff in it to me. However, FF XIII Versus does look promising.
Well, I guess I'll bite the bullet and go with the 'popular' option and say Final Fantasy VII
Greatly enjoyed the game at the time and still do. Something in it captivated me that few of the other ones could manage. IX is a close second with good storytelling (if a bit cliché'd at times) and fantastic characters. Of the PS1 generation, I felt VIII was the weakest, but I won't burn it to ashes here, I'll be nice.
Frankly, it's all purely my opinion anyway, so I won't tell people who love VIII that they're wrong. I can see how it would appeal to many.
From the PS2 era onwards, my interest started to deteriorate. X was still quite good, if a bit annoying at the start, X-2 was an atrocity, and XII and XIII just didn't do it for me.
(I have a huge-ass rant on just how many things were wrong with XIII, but I'll post that elsewhere at some point. )
Never was a big fan of the Final Fantasy series, the first 2 are good, and the rest of the 16 bit stuff is good, but after that, not a fan, I might give them another chance later on.
I liked 4,6,7,X and XIII,XIII-2 I found those stories and/or characters most to my liking. I love srpgs so Tactics as well.
i don't even OWN final fantasy! not even the NES ver! i want one of the new ones since they look so cool but i would need a PS3 or XB360
I stopped playing after X, if that says anything.
XII, by far.
Also quite fond of IX, and maybe VII as well. That's about it, I think.
Out the final fantasies I have played, I like
Final Fantasy: Tactics
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy XII is alright.
Final Fantasy XIII is decent too, but very linear.
I still need to go back and play the rest.

If you really love it, word of advice - just forget all about it, you never read this thread etc...DO NOT click on the link below
Spoiler warning:
As for FF...hard to believe, but I haven`t played the VII yet :) I was a die hard wRpg player when it came out, got the demo on PC and hated it. But - that was well over a decade ago. I converted to J-side in the meantime. Played & loved the IX - think the "fantastical" setting suits the series better, XII - excellent combat and world in general, III on DS - proper old school difficulty & grind. The PSP one was superb, thought action combat could get bit confusing and the Materia was too complex for me. Tried X-II, thought it totally ridiculous, but now I have the undub might give it another go - after all, "ridiculous" is what I love about Japan.
I really want to play XIII - just to find out if it really is so linear as people say. Read few reviews that said it actually opens up later on in the game.
yeah akeley is right the whole thing crashed my hopes ^^^^ about the new *FF* game pshaw
Really? Just finished 1 last night and honestly don't see the appeal in it =/
Personally between the one's I've played (4-9 + 1) I'd have to say I liked 5 the best. Just the huge amount of customization available between the different characters (and the fact that they still had their own base stats keeping them more focused towards different types of of characters, i.e., mages vs warriors) was enough to catch my interest. That and it had awesome music.
"I think that the problem with this video is it is highly derivative of many popular bands within the genre. Although when viewed on its own merits, it does have a deeper groove. However what it has in groove, it lacks in originality. One can't help but be reminded of such bands as Pearl Jam, White Zombie, Suicidal Tendencies and other bands that bear the mantle of so called "Alternative Rock". One is even reminded of Lorie Anderson when she wore curlers. Hehehmhm! This video speaks less to the heart and more to the sphincter. In closing, I think Korn would do well to learn more from -"
It does about 20 hours in. But it's about as linear as linear can be until then. XIII-2 is fantastic in comparison IMO.
My personal favorite was VII for a long time, but I played the series to death and it's finally started to lose it's appeal. I've been itching to play certain parts again, but can't build up the motivation to play through certain other parts. I finished IX for about the 4th time not too long ago. I think IX is the only one I've come the closest to actual completion in (all major sidequests, most minor, most final weapons, Gold Chocobo), but I guess I've done all that with VII too. VIII is the one that got me into the series when I played a demo of it years and years ago. Both of my brothers and I fell in love with the game. And I just found out that I can get the Lionheart as early as halfway through Disc 2 (once the garden is mobile).
I'm trying VI for the first time too, but it's fucking hard. I guess I'm just not oldschool enough to want to spend hours grinding to get by a boss. I almost reached the final dungeon of III on the DS though but made the mistake of lending my game to a friend who accidentally overwrote my save. :ffffuuuuu:
X ranks pretty high on my list for the battle system and Aeons. Next to VIII, X had the best summons.
I'll get around to playing XII someday.
Here's my favorites and reason why:
VII because of the characters. Sephiroth is my favorite antagonist. I also enjoyed Cloud's inner conflict.
X because it introduced the Sphere Grid system. also had an interesting cast of characters.
XII because the environment mixed with the battle system was awesome. i actually enjoyed roaming around and fighting.
