Default Problems with Wipeout 3 SE

hello everyone, as the title suggest i have a problem running wipeout 3 special edition.

i have the ISO, but after choosing a track and a vehicle, it doesn't go past the loading screen.

i also got the ECM. i unzip it and get the .bin.ecm file. when i unecm it using pakkiso, i get a WipEout 3 - Special Edition (E) (Track 01) [SCES-02845] file, which is a bin file and when i mount it (mount ISO on ePSXe)i get the same problem as with the ISO, can't get past the loading screen
    i am using epsxe 1.6.0

sorry if i missed any other relevant info but this is all i could think of lol

thanks in advance for the help!

Try running the game directly using the Run ISO option from the File menu.

Well there you go then that is not mounting a CD image at all you are simply running the CD image directly

Try mounting the CD image in Daemon Tools Lite then using Run CD instead of Run ISO (you will need to config ePSXe to read the correct drive)

If this is the first time you are using D-Tools lite then make sure you install the SPDT drivers or whatever they are called (I forgot what you call it )

but I will test on my end if simply mounting the CD image and using Run CD does not fix anything

P.S. if the games comes with a cue file then use it

EDIT:- thats ya problem the game uses CDDA tracks and requires mounting in D-Tools Lite via the cue sheet contained in the cue's and sbi's download (on the same page as the game download), the other way still requires the cue file and that is use ePSXe 1.7.0 that supports multi track cd images via a cue sheet, using run iso

thanks for the reply but you kinda lost me half way through lol.

    1. how do you use the .cue file?
i read somewhere on this forum that you mount it, so i mounted it on daemon tools, tried running the game using run cd and i got a black screen.

    2. second question is basically everything in the edit part of your post lol

oh and i updated the SPDT in daemon tools.

i'm really sorry i'm probably being a royal pain, but i'm new to emulations. could you please tell me what i have to do kinda step by step?

I also said if you use ePSXe 1.7.0 you can run a cue with Run ISO as 1.7.0 supports cue files

Sounds like you done everything correct, though you might be best off uninstalling D-Tools lite and reinstalling it with SPDT installed to start with

Without SPDT you will get a Black screen in ePSXe as it can't boot/read the disc

Though if you get the SPDT thing installed first time then it may just be that the incorrect drive is being read, but thats to do with the config in ePSXe

ok i'll get 1.7.0, but how would you play games on it that have multiple discs? because i read 1.7.0 can't change discs. it's why i got 1.6.0

also, how do you configure the cd drive? in ePSXe in cd config i have only 2 choices:
ePSXe CDR WNT/W2K core 1.5.2. - this one works, when i chose this i get the blank screen.

ePSXe CDR ASPI core 1.5.2. - this is the other one. when i have that on, i get a dll error

weeeeee!!!! it's working on 1.7.0 almost flawlessly. i say almost because i'm missing the music. sfx are here but the music is not. i have the P.E.OpS DSound audio driver 1.9 selected.

could you please tell me how to run this kind of stuff on 1.6.0? OR, how to switch CDs/ISOs in 1.7.0?

also, thanks a LOT friend! i owe you a crate of beer

CD changes work just fine in ePSXe 1.7.0 by the way but only when you have the mounted in D-Tools lite

In 1.6.0 the only way you can get it working is by using D-Tools lite

Therefore just get D-Tools working correctly

If it's not letting ePSXe boot from the virtual drive uninstall D-Tools Lite and re-install it making sure you enable SPDT during the install

The music may just be missing because the cue sheet format is not recognised correctly by ePSXe directly, it should be fine via D-Tools though

If not though I can still get the music tracks working for you another way but it can be a lil bit of a chore to get working (I have a guide up for that anyway if needs be)

ok i hit a wall again. this time it's not a brick wall, it's made of steel. granite even.

here's the thing: i did as you told me - i re installed daemon tools lite from filehippo, and i made sure i install the SPDT thing, 1.79 version. to make absolutely sure it's installed, i downloaded the SPDT exe and when i run it, i get a message that i already have it installed. so all is good there.

next, i configured the cd rom settings, following an awesome guide fireblaster lyz wrote: http://www.epforums.org/showthread.p...ation-Handbook i have the P.E.Op.S. CDR Driver 1.4

one thing that troubles me here is, i don't see win7 (i have win7 ultimate 64bit) in the interface part of the configuration, just xp vista me 2000 95 and 98.

so the problem is: i tried mounting both the image file and the .cue file to daemon tools(i start the game by run cd rom, and in configuration i set it up so it reads the F drive which is my virtual drive) and this time, i get the ePSXe exe has stopped working message, after which, of course, the emulator shuts down. i don't even get a black screen anymore.

as always, thank you for your time

edit: i did all this on 1.7.0

As it happens I also have Win7 Ultimate 64bit

Vista is the closest you will get... also I just use the default CD plugin, but I trust Pete's plugin is good as are all his plugins

I actually use the default ePSXe CDR WNT/W2K core 1.7.0. plugin and yeah that works find on Win7Ult64bit

If you are still getting it to crash then it will be because the CD image is not being read correctly, but if thats the case then I strongly recomend you re-convert all the sound tracks, track 2 onward

For ecm + ape files I recomend using http://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?57757 to guide you through converting correctly

I don't like using pakkiso myself in favor of unecm + Monkey's Audio tools, you will also need to edit the cue sheet but I give a good guide for this at the above address, though I'm happy to answer any more questions if needs be, it might seem more complicated but atleast it works at the end of the process

When you get to editing the cue sheet I find using Wordpad and taking advantage of the find and replace makes things quicker

    find
    .bin" BINARY
    replace with
    .wav" WAVE

just make sure to redo the first line correctly after using find and replace that should remain .bin" BINARY and not changed to .wav" WAVE

for now you can test the main bin or another CD image that does not have sound tracks with D-Tools and you current ePSXe setup, just to make sure everything is working even if the current game is not for the time being

quick update: finally got it to play the game through cd rom. yay! guess what. i tried the default plugin you mentioned and it works perfectly lol

now to try and tackle the sheets

ok so i opened the cue file in notepad and this is what i got:

FILE "WipeOut 3 - Special Edition [PAL - E].img" BINARY
    TRACK 1 MODE2/2352
    INDEX 1 00:00:00
    TRACK 2 AUDIO
    INDEX 0 08:54:47
    INDEX 1 08:56:47
    TRACK 3 AUDIO
    INDEX 1 13:03:05
    TRACK 4 AUDIO
    INDEX 1 16:09:48
    TRACK 5 AUDIO
    INDEX 1 20:28:56
    TRACK 6 AUDIO
    INDEX 1 24:40:72
    TRACK 7 AUDIO
    INDEX 1 28:53:25
    TRACK 8 AUDIO
    INDEX 1 32:36:08
    TRACK 9 AUDIO
    INDEX 1 36:17:11
    TRACK 10 AUDIO
    INDEX 1 40:34:43
    TRACK 11 AUDIO
    INDEX 1 44:49:31
    TRACK 12 AUDIO
    INDEX 1 49:05:09
    TRACK 13 AUDIO
    INDEX 1 53:08:30
    TRACK 14 AUDIO
    INDEX 1 56:50:38

so if i understood correctly i only have to put "track x.wav" WAVE before every TRACK x AUDIO entry right? i didn't want to tamper with it without making sure it's the way to go as i don't want to screw something up lol

You have a different CD image to what I expected or you have the incorrect cue sheet (guessing the second as you have a .bin file and the cue sheet is looking for a .img file)

The cue sheet should of looked like this....

    FILE "WipEout 3 - Special Edition (E) (Track 01) [SCES-02845].bin" BINARY
    TRACK 01 MODE2/2352

The cue you have should not be altered it's a self contained CD image that has all the sound tracks within the img file, just make sure the file name in the cue sheet is the same as the file name of the file it points to, what I thought you had has all the sound tracks stored externally as wav or bin files (originally ape format that is just a compressed audio format)

again the only way sound tracks will work is either via 1.7.0. of ePSXe or via Daemon Tools, I always recomend Daemon Tools though (CD changing works with all versions of ePSXe with as do sound tracks )

EDIT:- if you have 14 bin files try my first cue sheet (the one with all the bin files in it) I have a feeling that is what you have and the cue sheet you have is not for the CD image you have... no wonder the sound failed then ePSXe failed to read D-Tools...

Anyway if it's still not working post either a screen shot of the files you do have or list them correctly with there full file names (I can quickly do a cue sheet for you if needs be)

Or if you like direct me to the download for the game and I will test the sucker on my end first and give you the working cue sheet and how the how I got it working with ePSXe

ok i googled for some tutorials on cue sheets and i think i got the basic idea. however when it came down to applying it i regrettably failed
http://www.emuparadise.me/Sony_Plays..._%28PAL%29/248 that is where i downloaded it from, and after the unpacking etc, i got an image, a disc image a cue a text and a sub file. so i just mount the cue and play. (this is what i was using all this time)

however i downloaded this as well: http://www.emuparadise.me/Sony_Plays..._%28E%29/52529
i un rar twice, and get a .bin.ecm file. i un ecm it and get a WipEout 3 - Special Edition (E) (Track 01) [SCES-02845], also a bin file. aaaand i have no idea what to do with that bin file.

The Cue sheet I provided is for the 2nd image you linked but the files you say you got seems lacking as it should have about 15 bin files after you use pakkiso, hence why both my cue files list individual files rather than one file having everything in it including the data track to all the sound tracks

the first one that I presume was a img you need to either mount the cue or ccd via D-tools or use run ISO in ePSXe 1.7.0. for that one to work

Anyway going to test the one from our old section as I can't be bothered with using unecm for now...

EDIT:- actually I will get the ecm'd version I can't stand multi part links even more than unecm

ok i re downloaded from the 2nd link, and after unzipping twice and after unecm ing, i got 14 .ape files and that bin file i mentioned earlier - WipEout 3 - Special Edition (E) (Track 01) [SCES-02845] (bin file)

the 14 files are .ape - WipEout 3 - Special Edition (E) (Track 02) [SCES-02845] and they go on until track 14. so what to do with them?
