If I understand your post correctly, you have an adapter for the PS2 controller. All you need to do is map the controls in NullDC.

Trust me if you have never used a Dreamcast controller then you are best off using a PS2 pad anyway

There is no reason not to use one the controller layout is almost perfect for Dreamcast use the only thing that is that different is the D-Pad and left stick are the other way round, if I remember correctly (PS2 pad has a few extra keys select, top triggers and a right stick), closer to the Xbox layout minus the right stick select and black and white, or the 360 pad minus the top triggers, select and the right stick

NullDC just uses Direct Input that just about every pad uses, even if for some reason your pad didn't there is plenty of software to change joypad presses into keyboard
