    Default Knife Swap Trick for dvdrs and Gameshark 2

    I have gameshark 2 version 2. It works fine for ps2 and psx games on cd-r. But when I try to swap for dvdr it doesn't work.

    I've tried putting in a real ps2 game and letting it load till the screen turns black then hot swapping it, doesnt work.

    Tried the too many codes on trick, it says too many codes then freezes when I try to x OK.

    I dont really know what else to do. I've heard of using the dvd boot disk then putting back in the gameshark but I haven't found anything that said it would be different results.

    My Ps2 is a fat v3.

    Any info is appreciated!

    If you can run ELF files from your Gameshark, use this guide to softmod your PS2 memory card: http://www.epforums.org/showthread.p...-Ps2-Titles%29

    If you can't run ELF, then make a disc that lets you run them with this guide: http://www.epforums.org/showthread.p...e-to-SWAPMAGIC
    (ignore the ANY GAME part, and get the 007 game...it's the only one that's confirmed working)

    ESR would be installable with GS2v2 that does let you run those elf files via a knife swop/swap

    The first link sprung gave guides you through Free MC Boot, a bit more messing and you can install ESR that in turn lets you play patched PS2 DVD's directly without a cog swop/knife trick

    Here is a complete guide for that, p.s. it will be missing the files though, we lost this recently ESR Guide I recomend looking for the files for esr, this also used freemcboot but the guide sprung linked should have the files for that bit

    Interesting. I will take a look and post if I have any questions. Thanks to both of you!

    **Edit**

    I will try the usb Stick method too.

    I saw someone said they couldn't load elf files with their v2.0 gameshark. Here's hoping I can.

    Also, is there a way to use a USB hard drive without the network adapter?

    **edit**

    OK seems usb is slower than cd

    The only thing I don't see is what to type into notepad for the v2 gameshark swap. Google cache doesn't have it.

    **edit**

    Found it I think, is this right?

    BOOT2 = cdrom0:\FREE_MCBOOT.ELF;1
    VER = 1.00
    VMODE = NTSC/PAL

    USB drive yes, but I never got it working with the drives I have ESR patching tends to have more compat than a USB drive does though

    Yes that sounds like it, I lost that info myself and personly I used my SwapMagic to install via a usb stick , that same info though is in all games, just pop in a CD game and copy that file over (it may be a hidden file, so make sure you have show all files on (in folder options) if it's not shown) the only thing you will need to edit is the file it directs to, i.e. FREE_MCBOOT.ELF with ;1 added to it

    I have tried 3 CDRs now to get my PS2 to load Free MCBoot and ULaunch without success.

    My method is the game shark knife swap trick. I can insert the PS1 gameshark, swap and play ps1 games, use the ps2 gameshark to play ps2 games and emulators.

    But when I do the exact same trick for the Ulaunch cd, it just spins fast and loud then stops. In the PS1 gameshark the screen went black but that was it.

    I have a 30001R ps2 fat with gameshark 2 V2. There are 2 cards with 4 megs free in the slots and a fat 32 usb stick.

    I tried to make my own cd using CDgenps2, burned the ulaunch iso and tried a mcboot compilation cd.

    What could be going wrong?

    If I use the ulaunch iso cd swapped after the ps2 gameshark, should it load up a ulaunch UI even without USB stick or other programs?

    I used the guide too.

    I quickly searched online and found a CD iso copy for you to try, quickly checking it they added a dummy file, possibly to overcome the issue you are having

    ulaunch.iso.zip

    I didn't see this post, but the 4.40 I downloaded had a dummy file and I think you're right, thats what fixed it. I really appreciate the help! I loaded the noobie package off the usb stick and it included ESR automatically, so that was nice.

    Here ya go, seems you did a lot of work in making that tutorial, and google cache seems to have deleted it, so I made you a PDF of my save.

    The link is saying it's not valid but there is a backup kept I just need to do some of my own digging and recover the files needed, just not got the time for that now.

    Glad you now have something working though & wish you to enjoy your soft modded PS2, just as a couple of notes CD games do not work with ESR and CD PSX games will never work unfortionatly, a number of PS2 CD games can be converted to DVD but not all work from my own testing and others

    I also need to dig out my own usb stick that I stored Xploder on that was hacked to work from USB enabling cheating and save backups, the later being of more importance to me personly as saves from certain games will go corrupt backing them up with other methods, i.e. using certain explorers will corrupt certain game saves

    Not a big deal, I was really looking for a method of running homebrew and dvd-rs. The swap trick is easy enough for psx and ps2 cds. Thanks!
