For the purpose of this thread. You can rename teh file extension to .iso, and it'll magically be an ISO. But ISO is shit, and so are all the programs that end in ISO, so I wouldn't bother.

    Alcohol 120%+CloneCD+CDRWIN+Daemon Tools+ISOBuster=win.

Just not all at once. At least not Alcohol and Daemon Tools. They don't like each other since they use the same system resources to run.

I have Alcohol's virtual drive disabled, that's where Daemon comes in.

I have them both enabled and have used them both. Nothing happened. Was my PC supposed to catch on fire?

I use daemon 99% of the time anyway, it has quick easy access from the task bar where as Alcohol I have to start it up to get to its virtual drive

With Alcohol you can associate it to different images and then right-click on the image file you want to mount and choose the virtual drive you want to mount it to. You can even load images in Alcohol's list and set shortcut keys to mount them at the push of a button. Alcohol can also be set to have an icon on the taskbar just like Daemon Tools to do the same thing. Like I said I've been working with it for years now so I've discovered a lot of neat tricks to using it.

Neat, that's a certainty, but of use only to those of us who heavily rely on virtual drives. Otherwise, Daemon's fast and efficient enough.

while we're on the subject of Virtual Drives.

I got me some final fantasy 9. it only contains a .bin file. daemon won't mount without the .cue. how does I fix this?

Daemon Tools can mount .bin files.

For "Files of type" you have to click the down arrow and choose "All files", and then you can select and mount the .bin file.

Don't give out that recommendation without backup info.

You can mount .bin files with daemon if you don't have a cue PROVIDED you know in advance that the game is only a single data track. FF9 is single data so it's ok, but if you do this on a game with audio tracks, only the data track will be mounted. Running the game from this method won't play the music at all. And if you re-rip this mounted drive, you will end up making a rip that has no audio track = no music.

ePSXe can open bin and img files if I am not mistaken or delusional. Just go to Open ISO and tell it to show all files. They should open.

If it doesn't work with the img, ccd, or sub file, then use Daemon's Tools.

You can't use a disc image from the .sub file. It's pretty useless.

You can use a ccd/img/sub image from the ccd or the img

(For games with CDDA you need to mount it on a virtual drive [eg daemon tools] for the CDDA to play, in pSX.)

CDDA will play in pSX by loading the image correctly in it (using the ccd or cue file) without the need for a virtual drive. ePSXe on the other hand needs it to be mounted. I just loaded a couple of audio CD images (cue/bin and CloneCD format) to verify this.

P.S. PowerISO, UltraISO and MagicISO can't handle playstation xa when converting and will break games that use xa for sound effects, music and movies. Some games may just loose a bit of sound other with just crash out totally or just when an FMV should play.

If you want to stick with free CD tools...

daemon tools (virtual cd drives) [totally free]
iso buster (create cd images) [free fuction is fine]
cdrwin (nice burning prog) [free fuction is fine]
cdmage (cd image error detection and repair software) [totally free]

    For Dreamcast use

discjuggler (nice burning prog) [free fuction is fine]
[this one may conflict and not work correctly, I have not experienced this personly but it's not unheard of]

    For DVD's

DVD Decrypter (ripping and burning) [totally free]
[perfect for PS2 software and never had any problems myself with it]
