    Default Stripping it for resources....

It is possible to open up an N64 ROM and take out the resources? (Things like models, textures, audio, ect)

Can it be done? If so, How?

    to dump textures
grab rices video plugin 6.1.0 and under the texture settings check the dump textures button.

I've been wondering the same thing, only for PSX bins and stuff. Is that possible at all? Don't mean to steal the thread here.

You can extract PSX resources? Can you do the same for N64?

Okay, well Rice's plugin seems to have stopped working for me. I went through an entire dungeon in OoT an it didn't give me a single texture. Quite frankly, there has to be a better way.

An emulator has to find these textures inside the ROM so that it can open the textures and plaster them onto a model. Why can't I just cut open the ROM and get them out myself?

Not quite. ROM contains not only data, but program code as well, to interpret said data. Therein lies your answer: it's not the emulator's job, in no way, shape, or form, to handle texturing and such. It is simply accurate reproduction of what would happen, were said ROM loaded into a real N64. Nothing more, nothing less.

Also, you can just cut the ROM open and get the textures out yourself, as graphics aren't pulled out of thin air. The problem is the 'how?' part, since unless you're familiar with the workings of an N64, you'll have to rely on a tool made by other people, if something like that exists at all.

I'm not up on N64 hacking/ripping myself ...but

    N64 Graphics tool

A couple of game specific tools (Perfect Dark/Golden Eye)

There will prolly be more aswell besides but like I said I've not really looked into this before

From my quick dig though alot say there are not many tools for extracting files from N64 roms

Textures could maybe be easy though using one of the more general ROM graphics tools, most cover multi systems, so worth checking to find out if any cover N64 aswell as the other systems
