Thread: ePSXe 1.5.2 better than 1.6.0???

    Question ePSXe 1.5.2 better than 1.6.0???

    Similar to the problem solved here, can anyone explain to me why ePSXe 1.5.2 seems to have better compat. than 1.6.0.
    Examples:
    Chrono Cross (lockups)
    Jet Moto (I got alot of choppiness - no FPS slowdowns - no matter what video settings I used. No music play.)
    and the Gex: Enter the Gecko (in the linked example).
    All of these things were fixed by simply reverting to ePSXe 1.5.2!?!
    There's no real point to this question; just wonderin'.

    Nobody really knows why 1.5.2 works better for some games than 1.6.0.

    ePSXe is not open souce, so the source code is only available to the people who are actually coding and developing it.
    Which means they're the only ones who might know why.

    And if they do know, then apparently they're not sharing with the rest of us.

    It's been a long time since ePSXe was updated AT ALL.
    A few optimalizations screwed up compatibility here and there. A new version would fix it, one that hasn't been released yet.
    Chrono Cross works under 1.6.0, by the way. I finished it using that.

    Most the games that are claimed 1.5.2 only work just fine in 1.6.0 but require setting up more than they do in 1.5.2

    No problem at all with it @ Zorlon.

    That's precisely what I mean... they play but you have to toggle this and mess with that and turn this off... It just doesn't make sense to me and there's nothing about it in 1.6.0's updates except to use "-disableportmode" this does nothing to help Jet Moto... (Hoping someone will have some secret-super-informed insight on what's up with ePSXe 1.7 )

    If there is one. Really, at the moment it looks like they are dead. I know they aren't but it sure looks like it.

    If you find 1.5.2 works then why not, I don't see the harm in it and it is true with some software that previous version work out better and is something that is noticable in the emulation/console scene.

    Daemon tools tools previous versions have Analog audio support but the newest version does not there is also a specific version of Daemon tools recomended for Chankast

    Nero 5 is prefured over Nero 6 for burning DC games (I'm not sure on the why's of this though I own 5 anyway)

    I'm sure there are other bits of software that could be added but using an older version isn't anything new.

    1.6 added certain fixes which fixed certain games but broke others. In general, however, 1.5.2 and 1.6 are quite similar in their CPU core. Most developments in PSX emlation since the release of the 1.5.x generation of ePSXe have had to do with plug-ins not the core emulators.
