Default Metal Gear Solid: Disc change problem

I'm having a major issue here with Metal Gear Solid.

I've advanced to the point where it tells me to insert the second disk. I press escape, go to change disc, and it loads up fine, but there's no sound at all.
normally I could fix this by saving the game and then loading it again, but when this happens it doesn't let me save the game.
I call up Mei Ling to save and she talks a little but the whole game freezes then.

    Any help?

And what emulator. If it is ePSXe, use it's save states function. Just press F1 to save. Then quit the emulator, start it again, run from CD2, and hit F3 to load.
    Have you seen me before?

it is epsxe. I am using P.e. ops dsound plugin and pete's d3d plugin. I tried other plugins and have the same problem. I tried the save states but when I load the save state it is still messed up.

Okay, but I'm almost positive the problem is with the cd switch, not the cd itself.
I think this because I ran the second cd, and told it to load a game from the previous cd. I switched cds to the first one this time and I had the same problem.

    Nothing is wrong.

NEVER USE SAVE STATES IN MGS.

    EDIT: Sorry, wrong problem.

Have you tried moving on forward for a while? Post your sound configs as well.

yes, something is wrong, and it has nothing to do with save states.

Yah, I did try moving around for a bit. everything would be fine if only I could save, but that's messing up too. I'll post my sound specs. I'm not sure if there's an easier way to do it, but I'm just typing it out.
    P. E. Ops.S. DSound PSX SPU Audio Driver...
    Mode: 2. Use SPUasync
    Volume: 1. Medium
    Reverb:: 2.PSX reverb
    Interpolation: 2. Gaussian interpolation

    enable XA playing
    change XA speed

SPU IRQ - wait for CPU action
    [no]Mono sound mode
    [no]Enable developer debug mode
    [no]Enable sound recording window

I did try other plugins too, but they didn't work either. I really hope this is surmountable.

    Hold on...

EDIT: Switch over to Pete's OGL 1.75 plugin and copy the configs in my guide below. Be sure to turn off the SPU IRQ hack as well.

Hokay. Open GL doesn't work well with my card, but if it makes the switch work, I can save the game and go back to the other one. I'll edit this post and tell you if it worked.

    Edit:No, it didn't change anything.
By the way, the thing you said with the save state problem is interesting because I've experienced that before with mgs and this is basically the exact same problem, same symptoms and everything.

Ok...I suggest you start loading from Disc 2 directly.

Boot up MGS Disc 2 and load the game. It should be able to bypass the problem if you saved the game after being 'done' with Sniper Wolf.

Okay, thanks. I'll try that. I was hoping something like that might work.

unfortunately, it'll take me a little bit of time to get back there from my last save, but when I try it, I will make my hopefully final post on this thread. until then, thanks for all the help.

Huh, doesn't seem to work. even after sniper wolf it still saves it as disc 1, and wants you to change discs.

Edit: I'm going to try some other things, like copying the iso to a cdrom and trying to switch it to that.
