Default record 120 minutes of data on an 80 minute cd with Gigarec

That's right you can now record 1GB of data on a 700MB cd (or even a 650MB cd fof that matter) with the Plextor Premium!!! And best of all, the Gigarec recorded CD's work with the Dreamcast Console, that means there will be no need to downsample or remove files from a game for it to work properly!!! Here's some more info on the Gigarec technology:

Sometimes... life just slaps you right in the face with an anecdote... and once you realize it you don't know if you should laugh or cry...

I didn't get that PDF page to work, but it looks pretty neat. How does it work?

I searched for it at google and they say stuff like:
It is possible to burn about 1000 mb but if you burn a audio disc with it, you can't play it in your stereo.
    That's what I read, don't know if it's true

I think it uses a CD-R, but breaks many of the rules that are laid on in the Red-Book standard for CD-Rs or whatever it is called. I guess they just do whatever they want without regards to those. If a CD player is very strict on those standards (like the XBox drive) then it won't play it, but if it isn't as strict it will.

Not that good if not all readers can read it.
But if it works for DC games, cool.

Hmm I wonder how much a propper GD burner would set you back

Plus how available the GD-R's are.

I know there is such a thing, atleast

I can't imagine that it'd be safe doing this. Overburning is taxing on your burner, and if you do it too much it could eventually damage it. And while I didn't read any of the stuff posted above, it pretty much sounds like this is what you'd be doing...

The GigaRec feature is not the normal "overburning" technique and can be used in addition to this technique.

Hmn. Still doesn't seem very safe. Word it however you want, it's still taxing the laser in a manner that it wasn't intended for. I can imagine that if you use this alot, you'll be replacing your burner sooner then you would if you had not. Well, if someone decideds to try this out, be sure to keep us updated on how well it works, and wether or not it causes your burner to crap out quickly.

That'll work. As long as it's safe, then that's great. It'd save me alot on disks, to be sure. I don't think it's something I'd go out of my way to get though. But more power to those who do, eh?

Safe yeah readable in all drives no, but it's not going to destroy any drive by putting a 1.4x CD in a drive that can't read it.

I still wouldn't bother myself either though.
