Default Paper Mario rom new game doesn't start at the beginning of the game

I'm running Paper Mario on 1964 ver 0.0.9, Glide64 FInal, Azimer' HLE Audio v0.56 WIP 2, N-Rage Input v2 2.3c, and when I start a new game, instead of starting the opening cut scene at Mario's house, it starts me part way through the game in Goomba village. Could this be caused by a plug in, or does this mean there's an error with the rom? I can't find anyone else with this problem, but I tried a rom from another site and it did the same thing. Does anyone know what might cause this?

    Thanks!
