New hangout and whatnot.
oh boy oh boy new hangout, too bad i got jack to talk about
Do PS3s work at all without hard drives? I'm guessing not.
Do you not have an old SATA/spare SATA 2.5" drive you can test the hard drive theory with? :?
I read online and I'm not sure if this is true that you can take the hard drive out, let it boot off the mobo and if the ps3 reports no problems then you can blame the hard drive, although I'm not sure if this will work.
No I don't have a spare hard drive, I might have to buy one, the cheapest laptop hard drive I can find online is a 120 gig one for €68.
Does it access to the recovery menu? If it does you could try to restore corrupt files.

That sounds like a good idea Dan, also I may PM Beelzebub anyway since he fixes tons of PS3s.
Hopefully you won't have to fork out £££ for a new PS3.
Or €€€ in your case.
I wish someone would give me an Amiga 1200 with an accelerator card installed though, do I look like I have £250 to blow on a 20 year old computer? :D
Now it won't even boot, it just goes straight to flashing red. :/
No recovery menu either, Tass?
It's probably got a faulty motherboard then?
Gonna try that now Cookie.
Sounds like it's probably the board to me.
Ah balls, a new drive can be replaced but a new board would make the whole thing useless, like Englebert said yesterday.
Yeah you could pay to have it reflowed/reballed, but it'll not last forever.
May or may not be time to look into the slim PS3 you've always wanted.
Or you could always go to the dark side.

Recovery mode won't even start, it flashes red before I can even do anything. Also it a yellow light appears immediately after booting up, then it flashes red. Yep, YLOD.
Also I have a stye in my eye, fml.
Ugh, sorry Tass :ugh: Reballing is a bit less than €100 here and Sony sends you a refurbished one for 180...
If you have saved games you'd like to rescue perhaps using the hair dryer fix would let you do it.
I can't think of any games I want to salvage off of the ps3 tbh, I beat every game and a new slim ps3 in Smyths (of course I will look around) costs €250.
Also I already got the laser repaired on it. :/
Thanks for your help guys.
Yeah, a slim would be a better option.
And if you decide to go that way, deactivating your account/s should not be a problem via the Qriocity site.

An Australian woman has miraculously survived plunging into crocodile-infested waters after the cord snapped during her bungee jump over the Zambezi River.
Erin Laung Worth fell from the Victoria Falls bridge, 111m above the river on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia.
She was forced to swim through the rapids with her feet still tied from the jump on New Year's Eve.
"I landed with my legs tied and then had to swim to the Zimbabwe side (of the river) through the rapids," Ms Worth told Australia's Channel 9 News.
"It was quite scary because a couple of times the rope actually got caught on some rocks or debris.
"I actually had to swim down and yank the bungee cord out of whatever it was caught on to make it to the surface."
Southern Province police commissioner Brenda Muntemba told the Post Zambia that Ms Worth was treated at Victoria Falls clinic in Zimbabwe before being evacuated to South Africa.
The jump was organised by a company called Safari Par Excellency.

Hey, there already was a "Hang Out <Insert Witty Title Here>."
However if I were to try and reball it I couldn't break it anymore than it currently is broken.
It's 5:43am and I have no desire to sleep just yet. Guess that means more Bayonetta for me. Perhaps a movie after I tire of gaming.
I don't know, have a look on eBay for how much similar faulty consoles are selling for.
As far as reballing goes, it's definitely not something you can do.
Reflowing yes, with a hot air gun. Incredibly temporary though, it may last a few hours or it may last a few years, who knows.
So how do I format the hard drive if I want to sell it on?
Yes it does, I just went full retard for a second there.
Started Deus Ex again and played it for ages. Doing side missions and stuff.
