Final Fantasy X Remake/Remaster

So as you guys/girls may or may not have heard Square Enix are planning on releasing a remake or remaster of Final Fantasy X for the PS3/VITA, this was announced last month, But I have only just found out about it.
Personally I'm rather excited by this news, being a massive FF X fan (possibly my favourite of all time but VI and VIII are close contenders) but from reading some of the comments there are alot of people who are crying out for FF VI and VII remakes.
Personally I believe the reason they are choosing to go with X rather than their PS1 counterparts is due to the fact that all FF X will need is just a slight HD upscale where as something like 6 or 7 would need a complete remake from the ground up. What are your views on this?
Should Square Enix stop constricting FF VII fan boy's balls and draw up a FF VII remake or do you feel that they will leave this untill the company look like they are going under and release a FINAL Final Fantasy?

On the topic of 10, I really hope it's just a graphical update. I'm imagining FFX with FF13's visuals. Maybe throw in a few new sidequests along with the Dark Aeons and Penance. If they change the way the game itself plays, there's gonna be a shitstorm of unhappy fans. YOU HERE ME SQUARE-ENIX?! DON'T FIX WHAT AIN'T BROKEN!

As for the other games, I do want to see a FF7 total remake, but I'm willing to wait for the next generation of hardware. Full 1080P resolution with Advent Children level or higher visuals. As long as they leave the materia and battle systems alone, I'll be one happy fanboy.

I never played FF6, but I'd be willing to play maybe a 3DS remake. I liked the FF3 DS remake.

I'd love a FFX remake as long as they leave the battle system alone. And while many don't like the dubbing, it's fine for me. As for the others. FF6 has been remade and ported several times with minimal change I think. I doubt they would remake i other than adding a few scenes and with 7 i doubt no matter what they do with it will anybody be happy because many fans would hate it if it changes anything and many fans would hate it if it didn't. This is similar to how the Ocarina of time remake went down. Many complained that they didn't change enough while others complained they changed too much.

If FFVII were remade to be more like Crisis Core, I'd totally buy it. But if it's just a remake of the game as it is now, then I'd pass. Unless they totally redid the story, because that thing was a train wreck. I don't want to see an FFVI remake, because that game is basically perfect the way it is. As was FFIV, but that didn't stop them from ruining it with the DS remake.

As for FFX, I imagine they'll be using the FFXIII engine. They spent all that time and money to make it, only to have the game itself not be that big of a success, and they're reusing it for a sequel due to the losses from XIV. Hell, at this point I can see SE using the engine for quite a while to recoup their losses and expenses.

Here's and idea - fire the morons who turned SE and the Final Fantasy series into a joke and rehire the people who worked for the company before 2000.

Heard about this awhile ago. I really liked FFX for the most part and would enjoy playing this :nod:

Some of those people were still there when they made Spirits Within. You know, that little movie that crippled Square so badly they had to merge with Enix, thus causing Enix to become a joke in and of itself?

the dark aeons are pretty much the only reason they are really remaking it (though i wish they would wait till the ps4 was out and just release it on the vita for now as most people still have ps2 and most are modded). though since the blue ray disk is bigger, i am hoping they put more of braska's story in there somewhere. i just think it would be cool to play his story then x but that is just me. i just hope they dont put ffx-2

Well, While I fell in love w/ the FF franchise due to FF2(US(sorry, I find the roman numerals cumbersome)), It is FF7 that changed my life (so I like to think). FF10 is definately a contender though as I love the weapon and armour upgrade/advancement. I dont really feel that 10 needs a rerelease however since the graphics and animations were allready top notch. FF7 however would definately benefit from a graphics tweak though, as we all know the originals graphics were very polygonal.

I beleive this is the sole reason unfortunately that the majority of ff7 haters do so hate. Which as a 30 something gamer, a die hard rule learned back in the day of advancing graphics was that gameplay took presidence over graphics. This may or may not be the golden rule of many gamers these days, but it's still one of mine. As many of you may know there were rumors of a remake of FF7 for the PS3 early in its life, and it was my sentiment that the only way I would purchase such an expensive system would be in response to such a release. This still hasn't happened and I still don't own a PS3. A rerelease of FF7 would invoke my need to by the game system it was released for. At this point the only game for PS3 that urges me to pick one up is Wipeout HD, but not until I play it first as the sole Wipeout release for the PS2 "Fusion" was a huge dissapointment.

I personally really enjoyed VII, I never completed it when I was a kid though, the one I had back in the day was number VIII which I thoroughly enjoyed and I would really like to see that either Remade or Remastered in regards to X however I would really like to play as Jecht Braska and Auron and defeating sin with them, i think that would be really good :D possibly a new game +, where you do get to play as them 3 but we shall see I guess

personally i think vii needs remastered.

The same Enix that was looking at a 40% drop in stocks in 2000 and a decrease in profits by 90% by early 2001 thanks to repeated delays due to lack of resources? If they hadn't merged, we'd probably be talking about both companies in the past tense, though both of them may have limped through it with serious cutbacks. By gaining access to Square's resource pool, far larger than anything Enix had, Enix managed to pull themselves out of that, and by cutting redundancies between the two, both managed to effectively reduce individual costs for the two companies (yes, I'm talking about "cutting redundancies" non-facetiously; at least I'm not saying how they "synergized core resources" in order to "dynamically integrate shared resource pools" and...err...).

Actually, if you think about it, the merger was a PR master stroke. Square fans blame Enix and loyally support Square, Enix fans blame Square and loyally support Enix, and Squeenix shareholders are laughing themselves all the way to the bank.

In retaliation many people turn their hate of the fanboys against FF7 instead of the fans. As for whether the game is good or not, it is basd on gameplay, not graphics, but many FF7 fans use the graphics to justify their preference and judgement.

I don't hate FF7, but I don't love it either. It is a decent game but when it came out, it focused more on graphics and that is where the flaw comes in. Games that focus on great gameplay age much better and tend to look just as good as day one. Examples include Mario and Zelda games. Don't take that to mean that great games lack great graphics or that great graphics detract in any way from a game. But the focus away from the core of the game and towards the aesthetics of it does eventually detract from it. It creates a time bomb for that game.

I can't believe they're making this. I've been completely out of the loop with PS3 games. I sort of wish I hadn't just spent 100 hours playing it on PCSX2!!! Can I justify playing it again when it's only been a week since I finished it!?

Thaaaat's the just the answer I was looking for! It reminded me recently how good the storyline is. I love Sin as an antagonist. I have the PAL version for my PS2 but was playing the NTSC on PCSX2 without realising the Dark Aeons weren't in the game. There was much upset. I decided to start replaying the PAL version just after finishing but was pretty much told NO by the girlfriend. This is totally the excuse I need!

Having a lack of PS2 or a PC capable of PS2 emulation (unless you enjoy playing FFX at 15 fps :wacko: ) it's been about 4 years since I played it.
I would literally have a fan-boy break down if this DOES get released on PS3/Vita.

Just like to let you guys know that for me there are 2 categories of FF fanboys. FF7 and FF6 fanboys.

why?

This is because no other game in history (Except maybe.... UGH i hate to say this, but WoW) has a fan base that is SO CRAZED over the game in question. Yes there are FF4 fanboys, and they are pretty crazed over their fav. game too, however it doesn't compare to the sheer amount of crazed fanboys there are for FF7 and FF6

I personally am a FF7 SUPER fanboy. I love every other FF game though, except 12 and 13. 12 was average and 13 could have been a great game..... if it wasn't a Final Fantasy. People who played games seriously when FF6 or FF7 came out feel the strong connection with those games for a reason. This is because they ooze with quality. To the guy who said that FF7 was focused on graphics, please stop playing games now as you have nor will you ever understand what games are about. And to the guy who thinks the FF7 story was trash, same goes for you.

FF4 and FF6 were masterpieces as well, don't get me wrong. I for some reason didn't play FF6 when it came out, but years later when my friend lent me the cartridge, I fell in love. FF8 and FF9 were near-masterpieces also. FF8 was very engaging, I just couldn't get into it as much as FF7. FF9 was a bit better for me than FF8.

In order for me to truly get into a game, I have to feel like the developers were actually passionate gamers. For games like..... well everything after PS2 came out, it felt like all the gamer-developers had vanished into thin air, and we were left with guys who were like "oh, people will get hooked on the game if we implement this" rather than "Oh man, this is fucking awesome, I'm sure if we love it this much the fans will as well!". Honestly, look at all the GREAT RPG's for PSX. Too many to name. After PSX era, games went to crap. There were still great games, but look at the unrelenting volume of awesomeness that was pumped out before hand. After PSX, it seemed like we waited for that one game a year that was gunna be really awesome. There was like smash bros for GC.... FF10, and I can't really think of too many others on the spot.

I'm sorry for ranting, and for potentially pissing some people off, but I get very nostalgic when there is a topic like FF10 being remade and theres tons of FF6 and 7 posts. I really, truly miss the old days of gaming. Where have the enthralling masterpieces gone? Where's the ocarina of times, breath of fire 1-2-3's, xeno gears, parasite eve's, FF4-6-7-8-9-10, Legacy of kain's, Mario 64's, Legend of mana's, earthbounds, chrono trigger's, saga frontier's, valkyrie profiles, illusion of gaia's, double dragon's, rock'n'roll racings, Zelda 1-2-3-4 anyways you get it.

Of course we do have some GREAT games like demon/dark souls where you can really feel the developers passion. Anyways I'm out, hope they do remake FF10, that would be great. I'd ABSOLUTELY LOVE a FF7 remake... but I would probably complain about it hahaha.

Hey, hey, HEY; I'm an FFT fanboy! For all its flaws, I think it to be the greatest Final Fantasy game, and even well after 13 years I still find myself playing the night away. As such I DEMAND to be placed as a third category, because FFT is the most superior game ever!

But it did. The main push during VII's development was to "catch up and surpass" the graphical norm of the time. Reviews all praised the graphics. Hell the ad campaigns always showed off those great CG effects (state of the art at the time). That plot everyone likes? Neglected heavily so that they can work in more graphics and animation.

Are you seriously trying to say the PS2 wasn't the high point of gaming in the last 2 decades? Hell it even had the best RPGs. Just because you aren't looking for them doesn't mean they aren't there.

Also, the PSX was much the same way. One cookie to anyone who can name a game released within a year of the PSX launch that anyone gives a shit about nowadays.

Ocarina of time, Legend of Mana, Later LoK games, adventure games go here - Windwaker, Twilight Princess, Okami, Darksiders, Nier, Batman: Arkham, Onimusha, God of War...

Also, not quite sure what you're referring to with LoK. Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance were both fine. Hell I consider SR2's ending to be one of the series high points. In any case, Blood Omen meet Vampire: The Masquerade.

BoF 1-3, FF whatever: Dragon Quarter (easily superior to 3). FFXII (oh look, the only FF that wasn't focused on state of the art graphics. Note how it's almost universally disliked). The latter Dragon Quest games. Grandia II/III, the 80 different .hacks, Shadow Hearts series, Dozens of SMTs. There's no shortage of good RPGs out there.

Xenogears: I greatly prefered Xenosaga, Xenoblade has been getting massive loving.

Parasite Eve: The first was an action game/RPG hybrid, the second was an action focused survival horror style game. I'm gonna let this one sink in.

Mario 64: The defence cites "they're still making them" and presents an alternative response of "This man probably doesn't know Jak".

Earthbound- Two words: Mother III. Well technically a word and a number, but you get the jist.

Chrono Trigger: We're calling it Radiant Historia nowadays.

Valkyrie Profile: There were 2 released recently. Both were great with 2 having a significant lead.

Illusion of Gaia: Dark Cloud 2.

Double Dragon: Devil May Cry, Godhand, whichever beat 'em up is popular on XBLA/PSNS this week.

Rock n' Roll Racing: Should I cite Burnout 3/Revenge as being superior racing games with 'splosions, or Twisted Metal Black as being the same concept, done demolition derby style, and coated in enough grimdark to make the average comic book fan retch?

Yes, it took a lot of passion for From to copy+paste Demon's Souls, poorly implement a guild system that does nothing, shove in the shittiest netcode known to man despite making multiplayer more necessary (in theory), eliminate the servers, drown the whole thing in framerate issues and bugs (several of which can ruin your character/game), make it so that you can't go 3 feet without hitting an exploit of some kind, and then not care enough to fix any of this. Why, if all developers showed this much passion just think about where gaming would be today!

Ignoring everything else, and that I don't think those games are as great as everyone else does... There is only so much you can do with the hardware you're using. All the optimizations and speed tricks in the world won't allow for you to push out more than the hardware has to give. They probably could have fixed a lot of the issues but, who knows?

Probably because..

1. It kicked off the PS2 FF franchise and is fresher in peoples minds.

2. Most likely easier to update it to HD.

5. That's just your OPINION. Which means absolutely nothing. Seriously though you can tell by reading the thread that quite a few people are looking forward to it, I think if done right this is going to be quite popular.

Thing is, there's absolutely no reason for it to be anywhere near this bad.

Demon's Souls featured similar areas graphics/size wise and the framerate drops were a fraction what they were here. And it's not even when you're doing something flashy (IE: spells, creating huge amounts of objects for the physics engine to handle). You can just be walking and suddenly it'll chug like you're trying to run a modern PC game on a mid level laptop.

I find problems accepting that the hardware that can pump out massive open world games filled with NPCs will drop into single frame digits when loading a dark, brown, grainy area with a handful of enemies. Moreso when the engine in question happens to have featured much larger and more aesthetically pleasing games that ran far better. Here's a list.

EDIT- and this ignores another problem. It's a console game. There's no PC port in sight. I've seen PC ports to consoles that have functioned better. Really this can be nothing short of laziness on From's part the way I see it. Not that this would be anything new or anything. So, how about this month's revision of Armored Core?

I thought particle effects, post processing and the like were handled by the CPU? Maybe the models are more complex and the textures are higher resolution? Needless complexity is only going to slow things down. I've been thinking that From Software stuck Dark Souls on the back burner to focus on Armored Core 5.

Just noticed the AC bit. I'd rather have them fix up Armored Core 5 over Dark Souls :wacko:.

Mostly. Not that there's much of that going on here anyway. We're talking very basic presentation in most areas that suffer the problem of poor framerate.

The models look straight out of an early-to-mid PS3 game (compare: GTA4 to Dark Souls to Killzone 3 (which is running on the same stuff)), and the textures are outright poor for this far along this gen. Furthermore they're being run at 30 FPS so it's not like it's due to the hardware trying to keep up to an unnecessarily high frame rate.

That needless complexity is something that could easily be caught in a beta test or an early game build/stress test. Or fixed in a quick patch post release. It's been a month. The complaints have been cited since launch. It's clearly not coming.

Looks like my idea is right out the window. It's running under DX9 too, which really makes wonder what is going on there.
