My God humanity I have no faith in them anymore!
This is from the Chaser Network. They're an aussie comedy group that do a news parody show (somewhat akin to the Daily Show or Colbert Report but with entirely fake news), so this is either a work or they've harassed people until they've gotten together a large enough section of idiots to put together a skit.
Not that I doubt people can be that stupid (Hell, I've met plenty that make this lot look like intellectual giants), just that Chaser are most certainly a comedy institute first and foremost.
I don't know if people is getting more stupid but it was damn fun
Hypnos got it. :P While there is no shortage of stupid people around, most of them can at LEAST answer "What is the religion of Israel" and "Name a country that starts with U" and "How many sides does a triangle have?"
Even if this isn't staged, as Hypnos said it might be, it doesn't really say anything about America as a whole. I mean...you can make any country look pretty moronic by only presenting the stupidest among its populace.
Though...that triangle question...oh man... XD
I don't know if he still does it because I stopped watching a long time ago, but here in the US, Jay Leno of the Tonight Show did a similar comedy bit, called JayWalking, where he has someone ask random people on the street common-knowledge questions.
So, here in the US, a lot of people have seen that bit and understand how it works: give correct answers and get edited out of the clip; give wrong answers, especially funny ones, and you get your 15 seconds of fame.
Also, some of those people, just didn't seem like they were really trying.
It's retarded how people have this general stereotype of people. I don't walk around saying British people drink tea and eat crumpets and do all that other stereotypical shit. Fuck people on the internet who hate america. Sorry. I'm tired and cranky... But yeah. Like it's said earlier. anyone can wlak around and ask people and eventually get dumb answers. The black dude was pretty cool. Looked like he knew what he was tlaking about too. Knew his countries pretty well to name them without chekcing ht eboard. Goddamn I'm tired. I'm reffereing ot he bum dude btw. Off to sleep now...
Its more of the stupid people actually getting SMARTER!!! Oh noes, they escaped their cages!!!!....more of, they realized they just had to walk out.
Sorry guys, I'd have replied to this thread sooner but I was too busy consuming tea and crumpets. :(
it's not staged lol... they went souuuuuuuuuuuuuth where all the 2 string guitar rednecks live lol
Okay. But, you know, a system is as good as the people in it. You can say an educational system is shit, but, in reality, its faults lie within the hands of the students. I mean, if they fail, it's their own fault. They could/should study harder. I prefer to see it that way. Question of responsibility and all.
But, I'm afraid kids don't learn as much about the "outside" world as the could... Maybe they don't care, maybe the system is really faulty. I wouldn't know.
Oh my.
Staged or not, I laughed. Out loud.
and i agree. i should have clarified: education seems to be a pretty big issue with people who are less involved with the education system, but for those still in it, they could care less
however i would also say that for a system to work EVERYONE in it has to work together, meaning the people running it (i.e principals, etc.) have to cooperate with students, and vice versa
the biggest fault i have with the current school system is that it merely teaches everyone the same thing, with very few alternative options, so that it lumps people together as a whole, when in fact (as much as we like to think) not everybody is equal. some people have different needs than others, and in my experience at least, school systems today just arent meeting them
EDIT: im not speaking about the entire education system of the US, just my experiences with it. im sure there are much better places than where im at but still.
Yeah, some parts seemed all too fake.
About the American stereotype, it's silly. Then, a yank in my irc channel found out who Stalin was a few months ago.
AND HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE RAMONES. Fuck, it's true.
Correct. If the teachers aren't doing a good job or aren't motivated enough, the students will certainly not do as good/learn as much. We've all lived it. That old, boring, borderline senile crumpet who sits in front of the class, vomiting his knowledge with the highest disregard concerning how he transmits his knowledge as he waits for his retirement day to come.
Schools are supposed to teach the basics. And, when you say they all teach the same things, it would be sort of a big problem if not all the schools had the same program. Can you imagine being refused, say, a scholarship just because you went to a school they don't deem good enough?Quote:

When you mention different needs and different people, I'll assume you don't mean mentally handicapped ones, but rather the differences that pertain to how we learn and remember information, such as being auditive or visual. Let's face it, some people don't do as well with certain subjects. Really, we can't accommodate every single student. Schools do their best, and it's up to the kids to make up for the rest. Of course, some will have an advantage over others, and as much as it sucks, that's life.
I hear ya.Quote:

yea i guess seeing it from that point of view it would make sense....
however i find it extremely frustrating ( as im sure many others have before me) to have to sit through class upon class trying to learn stuff you're never gonna use in life, while at the same wasting time that you cuold be learning stuff that you will use in life.
i guess that was kind of my original point....
Ohhhhhhh, fuck yeah. Or when you sit there, having to wait for the others to catch up. But, for the first point, regarding useless subjects, they give it to everyone in case it sparks something in them. You know, like finding an affinity for a particular field of study and such.
God fuck. I hate this country. I was watching some thing on like... The Learning Channel or some shit. On a standardized US test, the average score was like 56% or something while a group of Germans, I think, took the same test and none of them scored before an 80%. When I took this same test, I scored 78%. What can I say, I'm fucking stupid.
So yes, Americans are NOT smart. Nope.
You saw that too.
Still have to disagree with you on that one, people in the south are just a hell of a lot more laid back than people in the north, the media just has a knack for finding the dumbest, worst accented person in the south. Unless you go to Mississippi  But yeah, I can't recall the news source I read it from, but Alabama University and Harvard had a scholar's bowl, and AU won o_O
EDIT - I'm going to leave it at this, I work at a CPA office in Southeast Alabama (used to be Charlotte NC as well, but its all moved down here), and weekly I deal with restaurants, small factories and warehouses, construction companies (I deal with a concrete company everyday), a chemical lab and other professional firms in Alabama, Atlanta Georgia, Greensville SC, Charlotte NC, Winston-Salem NC, Greenville IL, New York City NY, and some douche that moves around Maine  Now then, if I had to rate the intelligence of these clients in these states, it would go: (highest on top of course)
North Carolina
South Carolina
Illinois
Georgia
New York
Alabama
Maine
I honestly don't know how we picked up a guy in Maine, but we pulled it off. Most of our clients in other states were picked up by word of mouth. But anyways, people in the south being a bunch of ignorant rednecks is just a stereotype is all I'm trying to say ;)
