I knew it was online only. levelling gear doesn't sound bad if it's not stupidly done.
hey zal do you have problems with other people when you play?

It should be fine for that. A new RP4 kit runs around $50 - $100+ but I wouldn't advise getting the 2GB unless you're trying to spend as little as possible.
Yeah you can do that. I actually did the same thing when I replaced the battery in my DC. The solder was old and stubborn plus I had a crappy iron. Just couldn't heat it so I snipped the tabs off near the board and then applied more new solder to the remains of the tabs, then I could use braid ok. Cleared the holes with sucker and soldered in battery holder.
Another thing you can do with old caps if they have substantial legs is rock them gently until the legs break, this can be handy if you don't have the room to get in underneath with snips.
Gently though... you don't wanna wreck traces or something like that :lol
Be careful with any fluid or residue from caps, just like you would with battery acid (wash your hands thoroughly and clean up board with vinegar first then isopropyl alcohol using cotton tips both times).
Rocking caps until they snap off is a common thing to do with original Xbox clock caps.
Thanks for the advice :really:.
You can get cheap media players, even an old WD TV would do and they don't really die.
You might find one in electrical recycling, psu for one is easy (same 12v as most external HDD's) and you can get clone remotes online really cheap.
I still use one of those for some files with older codecs that my tv doesn't support, I have both a genuine remote and a clone.
WD is Western Digital. The one he mentioned is about $20 - $30 used if you're patient.

The wiki article mentions that they're hackable.
Couple of pics...

Remote on the left is genuine, right remote is Chinese clone.
The unit has 2x USB inputs but they're only USB 2.0 (one is on the side), doesn't really matter though imo.
Has DTS decoder onboard and you can output that audio transcoded so it's compatible with your TV (if that can't decode).
No wifi but has network port, I never use it.
Mine is still stock.
I've used it with 4TB HDD's and smaller ones than that, both USB2 & 3.
Upscaling for the unit isn't as good as say PS3 DVD upscaling but it's quite ok for something old that was never super expensive.
As I said these are really well made imo. We've had a few of them in work from time to time and they always test ok and sell (we don't put much on them, like $20 iirc).
Careful of the cheap generic Chinese junk. They usually run android and are pretty shit. I have one here somewhere and it's hopeless :lol
I could maybe hack that but can't be bothered. My TV's capabilities combined with WD TV for odd stuff covers everything except x265, I don't have a solution for that atm.
Looking a the wiki it seems mine is a 1st gen WD TV Live. First model with proper 1080p.
So yeah it's pretty old
Edit:
Actually, it must be 2nd gen :thot:
I know it decodes DTS and then I send it as stereo to my tv.
Nope, checked the serial and it's definitely WD TV Live 1st gen.
So yeah, 1080p with DTS decoding but no wifi. Seems like you might be able to use some USB wifi sticks but I've never read about that before.
any other brands I could look for that'd be good?
With the model I have there might be issues with recent codec variants, it makes sense if you think about it.
But any files like that play fine on my tv anyway so it isn't an issue for me. As I said I only use it for old files.
This is just with stock OS anyway.
If you hack it then I'm sure that would add more recent compatibility, but iirc x265 decoding is something that should be simply beyond the capability of the hardware.
Speaking of tv's, keep an eye out for a good plasma tv like Panasonic that is 1080p.
They have a load of inputs on them for legacy stuff so you can pretty much plug any old junk into them. Great looking displays if they aren't burnt out too.
I've got 2x 1080p panny's in the last year or so as "junk". Both work fine and have remotes (one even came with user manual too).
They're actually easier to get for next to nothing compared to crt's now (over here anyway) because every man and his dog is onto the "CRT GRATE 4 GAMERS" bullshit bandwagon and putting dumb prices even on worthless Chinese crt's that aren't flatscreen and only have composite input.
Thankfully at work we still have a "no crt" policy so I've got a couple of smaller ones as junk (one was still sealed in box).
still have my 13" sony trinitron that I use exclusively for my old systems I payed like $3 for that at a goodwill years ago most places here won't take crts anymore so the only way you can find them is person to person or in the trash if you're lucky
yeah i don't want to take a chance on some cheap chinese one I got lucky on the last cheap chinese thing I bought(a pair of usb powered pc speakers) I know I won't get lucky twice in a month
I can keep an eye out at work for another WD TV Live that doesn't have remote if you like?
I can add the spare clone remote I have and you'll just need to source a US 12v psu that's 1.5A or higher (easy to find for all sorts of things, but same as psu for external HDD's).
I only do trades so you'd have to send something though.
Depends on what you have that's small and I might be interested in, plus won't cost the earth to send (check with Gypsy we've done trades before).
Actually, I might even have a suitable psu here as well (external HDD psu rated for all world voltages with interchangeable wall plugs including US type).
I would have to check through my stuff, might have one sealed new.
all I really have left to trade right now is a pair of wireless nes akklaim controllers that are untested and missing battery covers. I have a dead fat ps3 and that 6 switch 2600 but i don't think I want to getrid of the atari or ps3 yet.

No 2600 or 7800 loose carts?
I'm always interested in US games but it depends on what platform and titles.
32 isn't a lot for an open world game I thought it'd be more than that.
hmm I think I'm starting to feel sorry for lobsters and clams now.
