shipping would still have been pricey. it cost nearly $30 just to ship the atari and oddessey to new jersey it was $10 for the gameboys.
no the oldest I still have is a gen 1 oddessey 2.

you've got me thinking about getting a soldering kit I do have some old broken toys with circuit boards in them and some junk ps3 controllers. is there and "books for dummies" on the subject?
Yeah US shipping even domestic is rubbish now.
We can send original Xbox consoles (over 3kg) from one side of Australia to the other for like $15aud or something, which is less than $15usd and this isn't a small country.
Well there are some ok tutorial vids on there.
Some general tips are to use plenty of flux, if desoldering on the cheap use braid and with old solder on boards you might need to add new solder to it before trying to desolder.
Watch that you don't lift traces.
Check for dry solder joints and reflow.
Mostly it takes practice. As I said 2600 units are easy to work on, so if you practice on junk first for a time you should be able to become confident enough to fix that woody :)
Cleaning up flux afterwards; you won't need to worry about that while you're practising. But I use isopropyl alcohol and cotton tips (they're called IPA and qtips respectively there iirc).
Solder suckers can work on a flat surface.
An electric pump would be good, but I haven't spent a lot of money on a desoldering station or anything like that.
I haven't done any difficult stuff for ages.
If it isn't a flat surface they don't work very well. Tip melts as well, even though the main body might be metal.
I do have at least one but braid/wick works well up against components.
can summer just be over with already?
It isn't summer yet
We aren't backwards, you're behind us like most of the world :D
:lol
I'm not looking forward to summer, it's the season I hate the most because of the heat and bushfires.
I do like Christmas though, it's the only good thing about summer really.
any of you guys ever mess around with raspberry pi?
Haven't had the chance.
Now and then I have a look to see if there's a new 3b or whatever cheap, I've got a couple of cases here I could probably use for one...cheap Chinese NES mini clone inside US SNES style case and also another clone in an NES style case.
Also wouldn't mind a Pi Zero for Dreamcast & Gamecube broadband hookup, I already have USB modems for those projects.
Spotted a genuine Sinclair ZX Spectrum case online the other day and was wondering if I should get that for a project too.
I already have more than enough projects atm though, should have a fresh soldering station arrive this week as I gave away the only one I had and have been using cheap $5 corded irons for months now.
@ Grouch
I was wrong about sending original Xbox from one side of Australia to the other. It costs more than $15aud now (although some sellers still have that as the postage fee).
It should cost something more like $19 standard, express is more like $26.
In USD that's like under $13 and under $19 respectively.
If you're not splashing out for an electric pump then I would still get a plunger sucker as well as using braid/wick.
The sucker is good for clearing holes after removing caps etc. Always good to remove as much old solder as possible and use fresh stuff.
If you're going a bit further (I mean stuff beyond basic like surface mount chips and such) then you might need to get some Chip Quik solder and maybe associated flux.
It's low melting point solder that makes removing ram chips and the like so much easier, it's amazing imo.
I kinda want to get a Raspberry Pi. They're useful for programming purposes, and you can use them as emu boxes if you want.
Welp, level 100 :D
*blows brains out*
what are you playing?
Yep. Get to pick another legendary perk too!
Just as I was looking through them the servers went down for maintenance again :(
Also got around to building the X-01 Power Armor and got the jetpack plans for it.
I don't know whats more amazing you still playing that game or that it's still alive
They've really expanded it over the last year. Hadn't played it much before this run for about said year.
Also saving up the gold bullion for the secret service armor, up to about 1100 now. Need a lot more. Some of the pieces I've been wearing I've had since level 35-40 lol.
so is 76 like 4 or is it like 3/NV? I wanted to check it out after it got released but I didn't have current gen or a good pc(still don't have either).
