A report today from TorrentFreak highlights the fact that many millions of people have stored legitimate content through MegaUpload with no way of accessing it or knowing whether they’ll ever be able to retrieve the files again. As a result, the Pirate Parties have begun compiling a list of users who want their files back and plan to file an complaint against the US government responsible for the shutdown and in as many other countries as possible.

The Pirates of Catalonia in Spain, in conjunction with the Pirate Parties International have put up a website urging MegaUpload users to join the cause. Here’s an excerpt from their full statement:

As much of the unlawful content will still be available via other services on the web, this action not only shows us the futility of these measures but also serves as a reminder that these files are not necessarily, nor have been shown to be, illegal in any country, including the US… by closing the service they have impeded the access to millions of archives of both private individuals and organisations, potentially causing huge personal, economic and image damages to a vast number of people. In addition, the Pirate Party understands they may have violated Articles 197 and 198 of the Spanish Penal Code by misappropiating personal data.

Racketeering is just saying Copyright Infringement in this case.(Can't be charged with the same crime twice in the US.)
Then there is money laundering. Where does the government get this charge from?

Another thing, I don't like is the Eagle Image on the Intellectual Property Rights logo. When the Bald Eagle is shown holding things it should only be-
1) Olive Branches(Peace) and Arrows(War.)
2) The US Flag.(Protecting the flag)
3) Perching on something.
4) Nothing at all.
The eagle in that logo gives the impression of nothing but control and nothing about conveying the willingness to either do peace or war, the desire of patriotism, or watching over the country. It is an 'in your face' attempt at intimidation.

The article of the Criminal Code, under which the criminal case was opened, foresees imprisonment of up to five years, along with the confiscation of copies of works and equipment.

What exactly do we do now? It's not like we can just slap the Firefox MAAFIAFire Redirector add-on on and continue with our lives. I've used FileFactory before. Would that be a reasonable alternative? I know that that site deletes your files if their not downloaded enough, so that could be a problem...

On a lighter note, I finally got to see the face behind the site. The dude was the biggest tool/loser ever. Appears he literally sat infront of a 360 all day playing MW3 as he held 1st place on the leader boards for ages. Sad to see the site go, but not him.

I don't know if it's been reported yet but fileserve is back, many links hosted on it are now working again.

We used to have p2p downloads in the IRC chat. It went don't the toilet though because nobody uses the room.

Was looking up my problem with Rapidshare and as it turns out, they limited the free users to 30 KB's even if it looks like you're downloading faster. They intentionally pause your download to give you a 30 KB average. So, I'm pretty sure that everyone's preference will be to NOT use Rapidshare anymore. Unless you're looking forward to extremely long download times. (Put this where the most people would see it.. General gaming. Feel free to post it anywhere else you like)

Stone, you can try premium link generator. I use premium link generator for Hotfile. Without premum link generator, I get around 20-40kbs but with premium link generator, I can get around 100-140kbs.
I'm pretty sure that there are premium link generator for rapidshare.

I guess you could pay for a rapidshare account but, like most people you regularly download from multiple sources, what's to stop mediafire or any of the others from pulling this sorta thing. I never liked the idea of paying for a cyberlocker download account for the reason that there are too many (well, that number is going fast).

Mediafire has always allowed multiple simultaneous downloads at fullspeed; I doubt they will change policy any time soon.

There is a possibility that Media Fire is going to be targeted next. Megaupload was one of the biggest cyber lockers which offered great downloading speeds for free users. When Megaupload got shut down, many people migrated to Rapidshare, another cyber locker which also offered great speed for free users but then was limited due to the amount of people uploading illegal content. What other file host offers at least a good speed for free users? Media Fire. I just hope nothing happens to it.
