This is actually a really good idea.
And I have some tea, too...
Earl Grey. :]

I have to go to the post office then work. D:
Not that I can tell. At least, I never approved any updates to download. I shut everything down (well, closed all windows) when I installed a flash player, but that has long since finished. I noticed this before that, though... it seems to take a bit longer for anything to load. Not really sure if it's Ubuntu or just my sleep deprived imagination.
It does come in handy for unexpected expenses. Like when I was doing some relief work for another store a couple of weeks ago, if I didn't have my credit card I would have had to dip into my savings account to pay for gas there and back. Instead, put a tank of gas on my credit card and pay it off when I get reimbursed for my traveling expenses.
The problems lie when you start using it for unnecessary things, like an extra trip to McDonalds, or a new game, or a movie, or something like that. A bunch of $10 purchases add up really quickly when you don't see the full impact of them until you look at your statement.
Provided you don't get in the habit of putting more onto your card or credit line than you can pay off in the interest free months. Otherwise you've just completely defeated the purpose of the endeavor. Which I have done in the past, and is one of the reasons I rarely use my credit card, 'cept for ordering things online and for emergencies. And to pay my cellphone bill.
Not sure if it's the same in the States, but in Canada they recently (as in, beginning of last year) passed a law that stated that credit card companies had to provide their "interest free" zone in a progressive manner. So, for example, if I purchased something for $100, then two weeks later purchased something else for $100, then two weeks later (say, just before the deadline for the interest free) paid off $100 on my credit card, I would still have $100 owing, but the interest free zone on the second item is still in effect for however long the given length of time is.
... if that makes any sense.
