No!!!!!!! My thread is turning gay...
Before this thread drifts completely onto a tangent, what does everyone think of the new Bolt Thrower album?
I quite like it, but it is exactly the same as their older albums, proving once again that Bolt Thrower will never change their sound (the usual grinding riffs, longer than normal songs and war-themed lyrics). Some people think this is a good thing, others find it boring and repetitive.
82/100 for me. Good, but not as good as Honour-Valour-Pride or Realm of Chaos.
Standout songs: Last Stand of Humanity, Killchain
I would like to talk a bit about Burzum, I got some music (well all the work Burzum did) and listened to it, I must admit there I really like the two albums he did in prison, I think after blasting my brains out with the earlier stuff, I can appreicate the calm :S
In prison? I'd better get some of that stuff now :PQuote:

If you wanna hear something more interesting about music from prison, there was this one death/thrash band in the early 90's that recorded an album in prison. Unfortunately I can't remember the name or the name of that album. I was looking for it for quite a while but never found it. Some guys were sentenced to life because of murder and I think another member robbed a bank. Anyways, the prison received a music program so these 4 guys got together and made an album with lyrics depicting how brutal prison is and how all the wardens are jackasses constantly mistreating and abusing prisoners. After the prison found out about the lyrical content, they disbanded the music program...
don't get me wrong, I don't agree with his ethics as stated in the post above. I've had a good listen through the discography, so I'm going to have a listen to some other stuff now lol.Quote:

Dead? was formed by Uli "Angel of Death" Hildenbrand after the break up of Poison. No not the glam fags but one of the greatest old school black/thrash metal bands of all time. Poison were an amazing German black/thrash band. They only had around 4 demos released with the last one being re-released as a full length on vinyl limited to 1000 copies back in '93. Unfortunately only that demo had good sound quality. I think I may have found all of their demos and some live bootleg materials as well haha. Too bad the sound fucking sucks. Their older material was a much more of a Hellhammer gone thrash sort of thing but Into The Abyss (the demo that was re-released) had a different style. The demo only had 4 tracks but the shortest song was around 7 minutes long. The songs were all well written, dark, thrashy with doomy parts as well. One of the greatest of all time imo. Too bad they broke up. A damn shame. Fucking record labels...
Anyways, I just managed to download R. U. Dead's first 2 demos recorded in the early 90's. Pretty good quality. It's pretty awesome death thrash metal parts with some doomy riffs in it as well. The interesting thing about R. U. Dead are that some of riffs featured are some Poison riffs. I found it very interesting and suprising when I heard parts from the song Yog Sothoth in an R. U. Dead? song. Awesome shit. They also re-did the song Sphinx. Awesome! A compilation album was released called ...Completely Dead which features all R. U. Dead's material including an unreleased track. I'm probably gonna buy it on ebay...
Check out Flo Mournier on the drumkit. Near the end, he is fucking INSANE! It looks like the video's in fast forward, but it isn't! That man is a god :P

I just got knocked out by this new band I found. Skyfire. Their album Spectral just blows me away. FUCKING GET IT!

Yargh, I have returned from my trip to Spain. It kicked ass. I went to a metal bar I had heard of previously called "Paraninfo" and the Las Palmas-based DM band The Zeronaut played there on Jan 1st at 1 AM but I was elsewhere and couldn't go. :( I also missed yesterday's Sodom and Finntroll show due to the necessity of sleeping after 24 hours of travel(Canary Islands>Manchester>Newark). Fuck... well, I'll get to see some other kick-ass shows in these coming months.
I skimmed the past few pages...
Ack... Stop watching MTV's Headbanger's Ball... Don't be a -corewhore. As I Lay Dying wouldn't be so bad if they hadn't ripped off Gothenburg riffs so shittily and if they didn't sound identically like 350100150 other bands. :wacko:Quote:

I've also been listening to Immolation's "Close to a World Below" quite a bit. Chaotic stuff. If you want some very atmospheric death metal, that album is definately for you.
Hey Soeru, you know anything about this?
I heard that Derek Roddy tried out to be the drummer of the band Psyopus, but didn't make it. How is this possible, and is it even true? Derek Roddy is a drum God! I do like PsyOpus, but comon.. they didn't accept Roddy to be in their band? I don't know if this is true or not. It's killing me!
Never heard of them, how are they? Even a legend could've been rejected at some time in his career, maybe back then Roddy was inexperienced, that is if that whole story is true anyway. Lars Ulrich was rejected by the band Metal Church. Kerry King only spent 2 weeks with Megadeth before being kicked out by Dave for his shitty atonal solos.
Oh yeah, and the first DM band Possessed split up because their bassist wanted to play funky style stuff, and went on to form Primus, and one of the guitarists took lessons from Joe Satriani himself.
A friend of mine, actually a member that hasn't posted yet :P (skinny dave, a proper metalhead) is going to see corrosion of conformity with support from clutch (stoner rock), I'm tempted to join him :P
I got this Relapse Records magazine called Resound in the mail and has tons of recent news like releases, live show lists and interviews. Both Necrophagist and Suffocation are recording new albums soon. Arsis have 2 live videos on their site!
Some bands I'm going to try out soon are:
Toxic Holocaust
Municipal Waste
Nasum
Nocturnus
Agoraphobic Nosebleed
Gorerotted
Crionics
Cynic
About time you're checking out Cynic!Quote:

I'm not a fan of grind so I could care less for Nasum as well as Gorerotted. I did hear the Ahnold album by Gorerotted (Promised To Kill You Last I Lied... I think it was called). Other than a few of Ahnold sound clips, it was a waste of my time...
