Carcass... and motherfuckin' Arsis! There music still gets my blood pumping. You'll also like Entombed and Dismember, also Swedish DM but with a more low-end heaviness like traditional death metal(but it's still groovy for the most part). Get Dismember's "Death Metal" and "Massive Killing Capacity", Entombed's "Clandestine" and "Left Hand Path", Carcass' "Heartwork" and anything you can find by Arsis.

Oldschool European death metal is so underappreciated over here! Like most people know Carcass but noone here has listened to stuff like Grave, Bolt Thrower, Avulsed, Entombed, Dismember, etc... The US has a huge scene of its own but still... you still see European metalheads worshipping Morbid Angel, Deicide, CC, Obituary and the likes.

Everyone worship Sodom, like... their last album is so fucking bad-ass. It's amazing that they kick ass album after album for nearly twenty years now. I love thrash in particular because it's heavier than most power metal and 80's metal acts, yet it's not as devastatingly brutal or extreme as death, grind or black metal. It's like a point where I like to stay for a while, it's easier to get non-metal ppl into metal with thrash bands rather than heavier stuff too.

I hope I get to see Sodom with Finntroll. Are you going to that show, Tancred?

It's getting recorded next year, then they'll do a real tour after that. I'd say that March or April is the earliest we could expect it, but don't hold your breath, you never know especially when it's an underground band. :P Arsis are going to make it very far, I can see it. I highly doubt that they'll remain unexposed and be disregarded for long. Malone and Mike are really hard-working, talented and skilled musicians that don't accept crap, every song is tight, technical and very intricate with lots of attention to every little detail. Their recognition will come...

How one could honestly enjoy the album it is beyond me, but the songs were classics, they just shouldn't have been sniffing whatever they were sniffing back then..

By "old-wave inspired", I meant Negator is inspired by the early 90's BM. Get Akercocke's "Goat of Mendes" and their brand new album "Words that Go Unspoken, Deeds that Go Undone". It's very different from all other black/death metal, it doesn't sound like Behemoth or Blasphemy, but that makes them more original.

80's DM was indeed the shit(Death, Terrorizer, Obituary, Possessed, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Autopsy, Grave, Entombed, and early 90's shit like Dismember, Vader, Immolation, Incantation, Dying Fetus, Suffocation, Bolt Thrower, Napalm Death, Carcass The Crown, etc.), but the scene nowadays has a bunch of more bands to offer that don't hail to the Gothenburg trendyness. Such are Nile, Arsis, Decapitated(earlier) Decrepit Birth, Severed Savior, Gorgasm, Kataklysm, Amon Amarth, Necrophagist, Wormed, Hate Eternal, Rotten Sound(more grind, actually), Cryptopsy(new album=meh, but original), and a few others. Still oldschool shit felt better to me for the most part, I like simpler DM from the 80's and early 90's. You've probably listened to mostly boring generic brutal grind/gore death metal, from how you described it, which is just boring for the most part. Many bands are just Suffocation and Cannibal Corpse-worship bands, which is cool but it's hard to find anything new.

Again, you're being a little too purist that you fail to appreciate or even listen to a bunch of bands just because they're well-known in the metal scene. That's just absurd, they get praise and recognition for a reason. There's much more extreme metal to explore than Celtic Frost, Hellhammer, Venom, Bathory and some uberkvlt 80's black metal bands that only the kvltest penguins in the North pole have heard of. :wacko: This is why I don't like black metal, too much puritan elitist worshipping of average to crappy bands going on and less focus on musical quality... (not saying that any of these are though).

No offense at all mate, I just think you haven't listened or bothered to appreciate so many bands because of a first listen because they're either "trendy" or "unoriginal". Well let me tell you something, it's all metal, so it's nearly impossible to write something completely original. Bands that recycle old sounds are just making it worse as well. The reason I prefer DM over BM is because there are more bands in DM doing something new and different that it's hard to define what DM really is(Ie: Obituary, Nile, Death, and Suffocation sound nothing alike), while BM bands don't expand as much musically and simply go for straight-forward stuff, which is cool but it kills any sense of originality).

Black metal can only have 4 different sounds> either you're oldschool like Venom and Bathory, or you play early 90's grim raw Norwegian-style BM, or you play melodic or symphonic BM, and that's really pushing it. This is excluding black/death metal, as most black metal fans dislike those crossover bands and call them untrue or some shit, like Behemoth got a lot of shit from old fans for playing more DM-tinged stuff, extremely closed minded. It's a very limited musical style because if you try to do something different, it's suddenly not black metal anymore. Hence why I don't listen to "pure black metal" a whole lot, because it all has the same vibe. It's weird how BM has been around longer than DM yet it has expanded so little. :(

Edit: Have you heard of Crucified Mortals? They're a new Sodom/Kreator-influenced thrash metal act from the US that had Novy of Vader playing for them. Stormwarrior are pretty bad-ass speed/thrash from Germany.

Dude. You seem to be misreading my posts or just skimming through them. The reason I can't listen to new shit is because in my opinion, it sucks. I do give it a listen. If I didn't listen to it, I wouldn't judge it. I don't listen to Mayhem, Exodus, Slayer, Immortal, Megadeth NOT BECAUSE THEY'RE POPULAR! I don't listen to them BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE THEM! This is like the 3rd time I'm saying this. I had numerous of those bands entire discographies downloaded. I own Countdown to Extinction and Cryptic Writings. I downloaded Megadeth's first four albums. The only songs I like by Megadeth are Ashes In Your Mouth, Kill The King, Trust, and The Disintegrators. Everything by them bored the shit out of me. That damn French song sucked. Then you got Rattlehead? More like Boringcrap. Mechanix is only a fun listen if you're hammered and think that The Four Horsemen is too slow. Hanger 18 just doesn't fucking end. He keeps wanking and playing the same riff for like the last 4 minutes of the song. Jesus fucking Christ just shut the fuck up. Exodus... pfft... bonded by boredom.

I am not a purist. I am not an elitist. Just because I mostly listen to black and thrash doesn't mean I don't listen to other things. I fucking love Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Accept, Diamond Head, Scorpions, Pantera, Dokken... I fucking love Dokken. I even listen to Great White! I own 2 of their albums! I listen to classic rock, ambient, darkwave, and folk! How many people you know listen to Greek folk music? I don't understand a fucking word their saying but the music is beautiful, unique and original.

I hate The Crown. I found them to be boring as hell. Nile was UBER boring. Necrophagist are very talented musicians, but that still doesn't change my mind about them being boring.

Kreator's first album is my favorite album by them. I don't like much of Kreator. Endless Pain is simply amazing. Pleasure To Kill is pretty damn awesome as well but that's about it. Coma of Souls... meh. Sure they began to play better and production was great, but other than Terror Zone, the whole album is one boring piece of crap.

No I haven't heard of Crucified Mortal. And yes Stormwarrior do kick ass.

Meaning I have heard a vast amount of their material before preceeding to judge it. Sorry that I don't like popular American thrash bands because I got into thrash by listening to old school Teutonic and Brazilian bands and in my opinion, I think it sucks.

I listened to the material, I didn't enjoy the material, I deleted some of the material to make room for all 3 Rambo movies heh.

I still don't know what you're trying to take a stab at... I'll listen to and eventually enjoy probably any band you like, I can listen to the grimmest most fucking underground black metal but I still like the power metal. I'll listen to In Flames and Dark Tranquillity, but then go listen to Disgorge, Necrophagist and Decrepit Birth. I also like hardcore, just not MTV-hardcore and metalcore. I've never heard of Pazuzu but I'm sure I'll probably like them(even the name is appealing, being the huge Morbid Angel nut I am). I like everything, and though some bands are more boring than others, I don't generalize a whole scene based on trends but rather the actual bands material...

Being open minded doesn't mean seldom giving a band a listen. I clear my mind when I try a band out, frequently I ignore what genre they're placed in cause then I'll know what to expect, and I'll be biased about it. I listen to music without bias... you already claimed that death metal is "mindless blastbeats and growling", which is a perfect display of how you shut yourself off to the music because of 4 or 5 bands you didn't like...

So do I. I love Blind Guardian. I own 2 of their albums. Nightfall In Middle Earth is simply amazing. Elvenking is another badass band. Primal Fear's early stuff is good. Dragonforce is good... etc...

My buddy is a goddamn Megadeth junkie. I've been drinking with him for about 2 years now. Nowadays when we drink, it's usually at his house and he always blasts up Megadeth. Be it a song, a music video, or a bootleg concert that he spent weeks downloading using his 56k modem... trust me, it's NOT a seldom listen. Even 2 years ago when we got hammered we still somehow ended up in Best Buy with him blasting up Megadeth on the computers. That's the only negative aspect about drinking with him.

Or like believing that animals can have normal love relationships with humans so bestiality is ok (yea some sick zoophilia shit I read online). No my friend. I'm going through my music library to list every single death metal band I can find and all of these bands are bands I enjoy. Be it they were death metal, old school death metal, melodic death metal, doom/death etc. If they were death metal at one point or another, I'm listing them:

Amon Amarth, Amorphis, Anal Vomit, Apokalyptic Raids, Atheist, Autopsy, Babylon Sad (ever hear of 'em eh? I own their only fucking album. Yet I'm a closed minded satanist), Black Forest, Blasphemy, Burning Witch, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Celtic Frost, Cynic, Death, Deathstrike, Deicide, Dream Death, Electrocution, Fear Factory, Gorguts, Hellhammer (the Apocalyptic Raids EP is pure fucking old school death metal), Hierophant, In Battle, Master, Massacre, Messiah, Morbid Angel, Necro Schizma, Necrophagia, Obituary, Pungent Stench, Sarcofago, Sepultura, Sextrash, Sickening Gore, Slaughter, Warhammer, and Winter.

I guess I'm still closed minded because I don't fancy Necrophagist eh?
